Damn. He is one of those guys that I didn't know was still around, but that I have often thought about. He sort of belonged to another age and made a lot possible for later people with his work.
I agree with you about his importance. He was certainly important to me. I have his New Concepts book on my shelf still -- and bought it when it was still sort of new, and when it still made sense to set up worksheets where you pencil in the data and do calculations with a hand-held calculator (remember those?) And then post your charts by hand.
He will definitely be missed.
