Can anyone else relate to this?

I made the mistake of looking at the one minute chart of SPX while I had up a 1 minute chart of ES (MES). Intellectually, I know ES is a derivative of SPX and the SPX is an aggregate index of underlying stocks, but...

Somehow, seeing it trade by itself with the understanding that it is just an aggregate index made it feel (to me) detached from the ES. Now, I'm having trouble seeing the ES as a physical product, which is apparently something I was doing without being aware of it. I keep trying to tell myself that it's just a gauge of market sentiment, but the mechanics of how the two are connected seems arbitrary. Suddenly, I had a drop in my confidence that I can see anything at all in ES. I'll get this back, I know. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. It seems really odd to me.

I may have to move to commodities, lol.

use the kiss rule . There is no good reason to add in complexity of both unless you are spread trading the PREM . That is difference between the cash SPY and the ES .
