Anyone know how one might go about plotting a forward curve of a commodity in NT8? If I have to code an indicator I will, I just wasn’t sure if one existed or there’s an easy thing I’m over looking.

Do you mean calculating the forward price from the spot price of a commodity that is not exchange traded?
Ninjatrader data feeds only provide data for exchange traded instruments so where would you get the data from?
Or would you just import the timeseries?

You would take spot price from each contract... like so:

There are commodities where the forward curve is very much dictated by spot + cost of carry (Gold, Silver & Equities being the most obvious) but there are many others where this logic does not hold (eg Energies and Ags).

While I am aware of software that will display futures forward curves graphically (Morningstars LIM, ICE Connect, CME Website for some products) I'm not aware of any trading software that does it naturally.

Easy to construct in excel of course.

Yeah, i currently do it in python, seemed like it should be easy enough to do in NT8 but it's not lol. Not a big deal, i can use other resources, i was just more or less hoping for something all in one spot.

Do you consider any other factors such as rates or only the carry cost in your python analysis?

I don't see why it should not be possible to create a forward price indicator from the spot price even if the carry cost varies with time. However the only downside is that you will only be able to view it historically unless you have a dynamic data feed.

Are you looking at arbitrage or speculation? Out of interest, how are you looking to use the indicator?

It would be good to plot forward curves in Ninjatrader. But as far as I know there doesn't even exist a 3rd party vendor who offers it.
