I just wanted to someone who has experience with HKEX - im moving to Australia and figured this might be better to trade instead of ES. I have some general questions though and can't seem to find the answers.

The market is obviously not 24 hours, so I wanted to know how can you tell where the market is going to open? im currently using sierra chart delayed data to get a feel for it, but is there meant to be an indication of the opening price or it just wait and see?

Secondly, during the lunch break where the market doesnt trade, how can there be no trading, but after lunch the market gaps? will i also need to maintain my margin maintenance amount through the lunch break?

Also would love to hear about your experience from trading ES to HSI/HHI!

I've traded the HSI since 2007 from Australia! The futures opens auction is at 9:14. And trading starts at 9:15. You can see the match price from 9:00 am (All Hong Kong local time)

On the lunch break restart at 1 pm it is basically the same procedure to the morning opening matching auction. So there is 15 min (I think) of price matching and trading restarts at 1pm. So the same effects that can cause a morning gap can cause a after lunch gap.

AMP sticks with intraday margins over that lunch break.

Thanks for the reply and clearing somethings up! In your experience as a futures trader, do you trade anything else down there? Do you think the HKEX is a good choice to transition to from ES, or do you think there are better instruments?
