For my trading with futures i use open interrest and volume.
I am training myself what it means by looking at price, volume en open interrest in relation to each other.

One thing i cant figure out though; Open interrest rises or declines if there are 1 new buyer and 1 new seller opening a position with each other. Open interrest stays the same when 1 new seller/buyer takes a position from somebody with an 'old position'. What is want to know is; on a given day i have an open interrest number but how much of that is old positions against old positions or old positions against new positions.

Ofcourse you can see it a bit when there is high volume and the open interrest stays flat but then it is still possible old contracts close against each other and new contracts open against each other resulting in a flat open interest. Is there a indicator or calculation to determine what the open interrest moved the way it did. So basicly new against old contracts ratio vs the ratio of new against new or old against old.
