I think I saw recently that with topstepX, they have a properly ratioed micros:minis size, so that with a 50k eval you can trade 50 micros (I think this is not possible with other platforms).
You should not be trading a $2000 account (your max loss) with minis, even YM. It sucks that they have not made this work for Rithmic and other platforms but it seems you're on the right platform to do this, so forget minis and go for micros, if you want to properly manage your risk with a $2K account. It's great, you can scale so much easier. The proportionally larger commission means nothing, the ability to more granularly manage your risk is worth so much more.
The other thing to consider is that you tried to buy before it had really turned up. If you had a specific reason to be buying those levels, that's one thing (in ES I was buying the low but I had a very good reason). If you're just buying because "it's gone too far" (aka it was hitting lower BB's), then waiting for it to turn up will prevent the back-to-back buy/stop out cycle that often occurs, where you finally give up just as you should be actually starting to buy.
