I wanted to make a very silent PC with 6 monitors in portrait. And I got carried away by this thread.
I have to say my mac pro with multiple video cards makes some noise. I also have to reboot every time to trade, because I trade in bootcamp. Now I will be just have my macs to do my thing and then this one black machine who is the 'trading' machine. No surfing, no email, just trading. I can put my macs in sleep mode when I'm trading. But how am I surf to bigmike then :-)
Does anyone know where the "bottle-neck" is for updating range charts?
There are times such as the moments immediately after an economic release that my range charts lag. I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a hardware issue, an internet speed problem, or a problem at the exchange/data feed.
I was looking into making hardware changes because my system is fairly old and seeing this thread reminded me of it.
Do some of you with super fast systems notice less updating lag? What about for indicators as well?
I'm using Trading Technologies and Velocity Futures. So it isn't typically the system having to calculate the bars during high volatility times, it's the feed is not pushing enough data?
Personally, I feel my current setup of (4) 24" monitors is a minimum requirement. But that is just me. Two of those monitors are for non-trading tasks, such as email, skype, and web browser for forum. But it is important to me because I can't just stare at charts 12 hours a day, so I stay busy on the forum and go through a million emails each day, chat with trading buddies and friends, etc --- but when the market is moving well then obviously I just focus on the charts and only the charts.
Sometime soon I plan to start to look at two markets concurrently, so I will need two more monitors.
