Please create a new thread if you want to continue this. But briefly, IQfeed is not a broker. They are a data provider, generally regarded as the best in the retail space. I use them. As for brokers, you can use whoever you wish as MultiCharts supports all the popular ones, including Rithmic, TT, IB, and others.
Is it advised to run MultiCharts without virus scanners running (like Microsoft Security Essentials) to reduce lag, or is your comment meant to mean that these can cause problems, but are normally not a cause of slowness?
Just wondering how I can keep my MultiCharts as quick as possible.
For the record, I am a fan of MSE. I only use MSE and nothing else. I find it to be the most lightweight of apps out there, and the most compatible/non-intrusive. But MSE does not analyze network packets. Some software does, and this interception of all network packets can cause a big delay.
I don't mean to derail this thread any further, but I wanted to point out that I stayed up past my bedtime last night and misread your question. I read forex data, not trading...
Sorry for the confusion, and for deviating from the thread's subject..
The problems are solved with MultiCharts. However, it's a fairy-tale world to trade CL live using the strategy. I don't think the retail trader (us) can get in and out quickly enough to consistently make money. I haven't used it in automated mode again, for I don't trust my computer and broadband speed. I have a greatly modified version of the program on TradeStation (so I could backtest it for 6 months) and it shows a net profit for 1 contract of + 264,871, figuring $4 Commission and $10 slippage per R.T. However, in the last week it lost every day (- 27,455 !!). So something's wrong somewhere. It went straight up for 5.5 months, stalled, now it has crashed.
I don't think I'll ever be able to compete in an automated mode with the Big Boys. I'm still working on another version of it though. I need to find a strategy that doesn't require instantaneous execution, where not being the 1st one in doesn't kill me. As it is now, I'm probably the last one in and either miss the profitable trades or get the losing trades.
A little disappointed, but I will never give up. And yes, MultiCharts is the best charting program out there.
