My opinion is that while their may not be a line as far as hate speech in America, there should be.
If a group is specifically making threats or inciting violence on another group as an example, that would be crossing the line. It will inevitably lead to violence and/or death.
I believe someday, in a more advanced way of thinking type of society that takes into consideration our modern findings in philosophy, psychology, and human behavior, it will happen.
The saddest aspect of life right now is that science
gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.

Well it looks like Oil Trader David might have to actually go out and earn a honest living somehow. I doubt he will do anything that drastic though. If this guy would put as much effort into learning to trade as he does scamming people and trolling the entire internet he might be profitable.
YouTubes Community Guidelines regarding Hate Speech:
By calling for the extermination of Jews and Freemasons his "account has been terminated due to repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines."
Of course hate speech, such as put forward by this poor guy in his youtube statement is not acceptable. Also it is not acceptable to insult religious communities and ethnic minorities. But freedom of speech has a higher value per se than the feelings of those who might be hurt by an inappropriate or insulting statement. It always possible to apologize for offending speech or to delete unacceptable content.
By the way YouTube has cancelled David's account today as a reaction to his insults. This is absolutely appropriate. But the democratic process requires being allowed to speak first, and those insulted or hurt need to control their feelings, but stand up and oppose the offenders, where appropriate.
One of the most difficult cases has been the case of the article "Muhammeds ansigt" published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. In liberal Denmark it is possible to unmask religion and show that it is a giant brainwashing machine. Now I would like to make a few statements, just to demonstrate free speech
-> Religion kicks in, as humans do not find heuristic or scientific answers explaining their existence.
-> Religion provides society with a set of (mostly irrational) beliefs, which are used to plug the mental holes.
-> Creationism is pure nonsense.
-> Religion survived in the past, as it created a group identity and usually came with a set of ethics that provided for a competitive advantage (example quakers, when colonizing America).
-> Religious leaders have mostly abused their powers.
-> Division of powers within the state and separation of church and state are among the foundations of both democracy and capitalism.
-> Religious sectarianism is one of the greatest dangers to our modern world.
Given this set of statements, it is near-impossible to explain and to defend them, without insulting those who believe in creationism or some of the more far-fetched concepts linked to Islam. Let us assume that I believe that it is high time to strip religion of a lot of nonsense that comes along with it, I might go for some cartoons to
demonstrate it. The purpose of the demonstration is not to insult anybody, but to show how irrational some of the religious beliefs are.
For fundamentalist Christians:
For fundamentalist Muslims
The Qur'an, hadith and Islamic scholars all mention that virgins will be awarded to Muslim men in Paradise. Each time we sleep with a Houri we find her virgin. Besides, the penis of the Elected never softens. The erection is eternal; the sensation that you feel each time you make love is utterly delicious and out of this world and were you to experience it in this world you would faint. Each chosen one [i.e. Muslim] will marry seventy [sic] houris, besides the women he married on earth, and all will have appetizing vaginas." - Al-Suyuti, Al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an, p. 351
The problem is very much the same as with the genesis, it is not a good idea to use a collection of ancient documents and take them literally. Those documents have been written by our ancestors, and they were prone to failure and errors, as all of us are. Religion is not built upon a solid base, it has been more or less created by necessity and its fundament is emotion. It is easy to attack the weak foundation with a few cartoons. The outrageous reactions are just a confession of weakness.
I would like to present an artistic painting of the 72 virgins, but as nudity is censored in Big Mike's forum and I do not want to offend the feelings of the sensitive reader, here is a link to the picture. https://wikiislam.net/wiki/uploads/9/9b/72-houris.jpg
As a subtstitute, I offer an alternative picture with 72 fully dressed virgins, maybe not quite what was expected.
PS : I have a great respect for religious people. This of course includes Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus. Nevertheless religious zealots are one of the imminent threats to our open society. Open and tolerant societies have fared better in the past. That explains the necessity to stand up and speak.
Here is the result of a survey from 2006 about people's attitude towards evolution. The US beats Turkey.
With Education, comes Wisdom. With Wisdom, comes HOPE for mankind...
I read this somewhere...
Every religious person has two things in common:
1) The details of what they believe are different in many ways – and very often in conflict – with what every other religious person believes (including members of their own faith), and
2) There is no way to truly scientifically validate their religious claims.
This is what religion is. It is a FAITH which has no proof and those that argue that there is some historical merit to the stories in the Bible for instance has NO impact on it being the word of God. There are a ton of historical accuracies in many fiction stories and literature and even movies etc, but that doesn't make the story real. Religion is nothing but cause of conflict with no possible resolution, which is unfortunate, because most people pursuing it, mean well, but inevitably end up worse off because of it.
There is only one category of knowledge, by definition, that all people can agree upon. It’s called science. It should be the only thing guiding government policies. It is our only hope for peace and evolvement intellectually and even spiritually. To claim otherwise is not only foolish, but irresponsible & dangerous.
I think the important thing is to try and make sure this guy at oil trader academy will not be stealing a thousand dollars a pop from the naïve or uninformed anymore. David has the same free speech rights as us and he can rant about people and religions and if we happen upon him we can just move on after yet another encounter with an idiot. But that wasn't all he was doing, he was taking advantage of people and stealing their money. I hope the CFTC eventually comes down hard on this guy.
BTW fat tails I like the picture of the 72 virgins, reminds me of the nun from the Blues Brothers.
