I learned from a retired man who used to manage a private equity fund. Even years after retirement and becoming a full time day trader, he continued to title himself as an "Private Equity Fund Manager" ... I asked him about it once, his reply was "they don't need to know the specific details of the fund. after all, it's private". Made perfect sense to me, so that's what use as my title. Every time I say it, I think of my dad. I found a card while cleaning out his desk with the title CIO Chief Investment Officer. Never got to ask him about that.
I started telling people I'm either retired or that I work for a hedge fund. Either one works. Anything else provokes odd stares of disbelief or disgust.
