Consensus after speaking with a few developers is to go ahead and setup a stand-alone side-by-side installation of IPB 3.4. So I have been trying to do that all day, and just running into a couple ridiculous issues that are slowing me down. Hope to get it sorted tonight.
Then the first pass of the initial database conversion from vb 3.8 to ipb 3.4, then ipb 3.4 to ipb 4.0. LOL. Pull my hair out. Will update here once I get that far.
I'm trying to get it to a spot where I can invite some of you to start logging into the beta site, and then we will collectively start making what is going to a monster list of things that are wrong and/or missing that need to be hired out to the developers for fixes.
hopefully it has a better search capacity, for example search for somebody said something. Also search attachments has Exclude extensions: box only, it should also have Include extensions: box.
It definitely does, although I'll be making major enhancements.
Two things:
1) I've stopped making enhancements to futures.io (formerly BMT)'s underlying user experience for some time now, because I knew it was EOL and I needed to migrate away from vb to something else. Once futures.io (formerly BMT) v5 is off the ground, I can get back to creating new tools to enhance the features of the site.
2) When I do make the beta site of futures.io (formerly BMT) v5 available for testing, it is critically important everyone fully understand we're starting at a ground-up/basic/vanilla/no customization framework aka "factory default", and it will take some time to port over all the futures.io (formerly BMT) goodies we are used to. Most of these will be ported before the site can ever go "live" into production use.
The initial conversion to IPB 3.4 is still ongoing. It's excessively and ridiculously slow. This is not a hardware limit, it's purely terrible conversion code. I've heard the IPB 4 converter isn't much better, unfortunately.
Maybe later today I can start the 3.4 to 4 converter.
LOL, yeah this PM conversion is the last time consuming one needed to finish. Then, I will backup/dump everything and proceed with the 3.4 to 4.0 migration. That will take another couple days.
