Well naturally I'm just quoting a stat that I read. The source - which I may have in my clipping file is Popular Science. They are bit on details - especially on environmental matters - more sound bites. However, 2 years ago I was talking with some guys in the gym who were fishermen and training for an exam. In anycase the more senior of the two confirmed the dragnet trawling - awful stuff. and then when I mentioned the 70% stat he said well it may be worse than that. The South China sea is devoid of fish stocks.
I would imagine the 70% would be from sampling done by researchers and also information from commerical fishing statistics. With statistics as you know, once you get enough sample size the difference between the estimate and the actual is extremely small. The 70% number is a few years old and it would be worst now. Recent Pop Sci article talked about the carbonic acid build up and there are hot zones that are so acid there are no fish. (If I get time I'll did up the link if you ask for it to pop sci back issues.)
Of course as you realize the stat, and all stats, are descriptive. The point is that if you cross the tipping point you may wipe out "all" fish kill the ocean. The ocean is the heart of the ecosystem vital for life on the planet - air, temp, etc. 66%, 70% 76% - it doesn't matter to the essence of the situation. It is way, way, way too much
Most people just have no clue how bad things are.
Because I have follow environmental issues for so many, many years, I don't even know where to begin.
If I say too much then they mentally scream "I don't want to know" - and switch the conversation to the Dogers game.
Most people's knowledge is pathetic - but the painful part is they don't really care. It not like they are trying to learn and find out.
re Chinese: yes totally disgusting. They totally wiped out their entire tiger population for "medicine" (old limp man, eat groundup tiger bone you be strong and hard and viral like young tiger in bed - ha ha wink-wink. disgusting!!!).
Then because their stock of tiger bones is gone they send their hencmen to the wildlife preserves in India and bribe a dirt-poor starving farmer to go and poison a tiger on the preserve and bring them the bones.
..........
peace, love and joy to you

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
you can easily go to the dept of energy website and find out about it.
You distract the conversion from the central theme.
This is called taking the conversation down the alley and mugging it.
What's the point? Are you trying to avoid the reality of how bad things are? Are you arguing just for the sake of arguing??????
Do you think I get paid to post?
I did not make it up - it is true. Go to the website and then come back to this thread and show us all what you found.
Don't be lazy and irresponsible.
The environment is not just another conversation.
I expect the info from you - some work on your part -- posted here with your apology!!
To be fair, I don't agree with ignorant societies consuming Rhino horn, etc. but let's get serious. Most environmental science is junk science, as more experts are now finding out. Sure, let's take care of the Earth. I hunt and fish and enjoy the outdoors and nature but there is such a thing as taking it WAYYYY too far.
I really don't want to fight but the 33% is totally bogus. some of what you say I would agree with it's just that when an environmentalist starts rattling of stats they most always are exaggerated and it undermines thier credibility
I'm behind the work to i need to do today so I'll make this short:
Forum trolls get lost!!!!!!
Forum trolls wander around the board looking for places they can provoke and hoping to get the other fellow's dander up.
They never bother to contribute anything positive or helpful.
They never put any work or research behind their argumentative assertions.
They are low-life energy leaches that enjoy hijacking threads and also taking a conversation done the alley to mug it.
They don't care, they don't have moral courage and they never do any work or post any support for the provoke one-liners. If you challenge them to do so they ignore it and continue trying to bait you.
They are evil and negative energy people who will always play "devils advocate".
