Asus Transformer came out June this year . is this one diff from that?

Yes, quite a bit different. That is the TF101. This is the "Prime", aka TF201. It is quad core, Tegra 3, thinner, lighter, and far faster. Plus a better screen, longer battery life, thinner dock, etc etc.

There is a production problem with wi-fi, so Asus is delaying shipments a couple of weeks while they work on a fix. I'll be cancelling my pre-order and waiting until I can confirm the hardware revision and fix.

Mike

Sorry to hear continued rumors about the delays.
However, one of my units was in the store and it is still there in a locked case waiting for me on the 19th. (GameStop).
I've checked several locations that have the Prime and there is no apparent wi-fi issue on any of those units.
So maybe it is all still just rumors because of the impatience of people that want them?

All of the reviews(2) I've read about wi-fi issues admitted they either had a defective unit or a configuration issue with the in-house wi-fi AP setup. One of them admitted he had multiple wi-fi AP's and it was causing connection issues at times with other product reviews.

But Dec 19 will be here soon and then I can give you a first hand report on the wi-fi.

I would still be concerned about wi-fi on your unit. It could be that there is only a sporadic production problem, and they caught it on all units in QC before shipping. But that is highly doubtful and wishful thinking. Just the fact that two high profile reviewers (Anand and Cnet) both received units with defective wi-fi shows it caught them off guard.

Asus Vice President
You’re receiving this email because you’ve expressed interest in the Asus Transformer Prime, Asus next-generation quad core high performance tablet. We just received word this morning directly from Asus Vice President for North America Sales and Distribution that the production on the Transformer Prime has been temporarily delayed. Asus focus has always been on high quality and with the Transformer Prime being their flagship tablet product they’re spending some additional time and resources to ensure that the Transformer Prime reflects that at launch. We have also been informed that the gold version will not be available in Canada at launch.

More here:
Production delayed on the prime? - xda-developers

I would love to have it in time for Christmas, but this is a longer term purchase for me - so since I am really not willing to pay the tax premium (Gamestop), and I want Champage whereas Gamestop doesn't guarantee color, plus given this wi-fi production problem ---- it basically means I am happy waiting until mid January as needed.

Yeah, I am not doubting some units have issues and maybe even all of them.

I can easily wait for a unit since I have the first generation Transformer and it works well.

I've heard so many rumors about release dates, issues, lately.
I would rather get some concrete information rather than an easily faked thread post.

Most of the so called 'from Asus' release dates have turned out to not actually be authentic.
If the 'VP' of Asus sent a 'notice' of problems with the production schedule I wonder why Engaget or Gizmoto are not all over it?
Or at the very least some of the IPad Lemming Reviewers so they could further bash Android as an Apple killer.

The waiting for cutting edge stuff never ends...
Eventually you have to just jump in:

New Samsung Tablet

I'm sure it will be nice. But that is too big. 10.1" was already a bit bigger than I wanted. I would be more interested in a high powered exynos or tegra 3 super amoled+ version of the 8.9" with ICS.

It seems now that Asus has finally made public the issues about wifi, and recalled the first batch of units, the US launch is resuming.

Amazon already shipped its first batch on Friday. I guess I'll end up not getting mine until after Christmas since I waited too long to pre-order.

Amazon has removed the pre-order ability for the last couple weeks, but it is supposed to be back as of midnight PST tonight (2 hours). So if I am up, I might go ahead and pre-order once more with Amazon, and hope that it somehow makes its way here before Christmas

Just received confirmation that Amazon is shipping my Prime 32GB Champagne, I should have it Friday. Nice present to myself, I am looking forward to it.

The dock is still a couple weeks out, it seems.
