Man this drink hits the spot, I think it's my favorite - medium latte with sugar, cream, and hazelnut flavor from Dunkin donuts. To be honest, I think the coffee there is better than Starbucks and cheaper. Here's a fun fact - did you know that Starbucks opens up four new locations a day!

Caffeine, that's for girls, what you want is Cocaine, that'll get you wired directly to every tick on your charts it'll give you 100% laser focus, that's why so many Pro traders use it.
Caffeine actually makes me sleepy, I drink a coffee before I go to bed, if I don't I can't sleep, I'm WEIRD.
I make my best trades, just after waking up while 1/2 asleep oddly, then I over think and stress and force trades so maybe go the opposite way ??
p.s. joking about the Coke, I have never done drugs in my life or ever shall, but it would likely solve my, made a trade, bored go do something else less profitable instead issues.
See the link for the pictures of spider webs that spiders spin when on different chemicals.
Scientists at the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have turned their attention from the mysteries of the cosmos to a more esoteric area of research: what happens when you get a spider stoned. Their experiments have shown that common house spiders spin their webs in different ways according to the psychotropic drug they have been given. Nasa scientists believe the research demonstrates that web-spinning spiders can be used to test drugs because the more toxic the chemical, the more deformed was the web.
* Spiders on marijuana made a reasonable stab at spinning webs but appeared to lose concentration about half-way through.
* Those on Benzedrine - "speed" - spin their webs "with great gusto, but apparently without much planning leaving large holes", according to New Scientist magazine.
* Caffeine, one of the most common drugs consumed by Britons in soft drinks, tea and coffee, makes spiders incapable of spinning anything better than a few threads strung together at random.
* On chloral hydrat, an ingredient of sleeping pills, spiders "drop off before they even get started".
Essentially the spider does best when it's tripping balls on lsd and Mescaline. I've done all these drugs and more in my past and can say that tripping on lsd is entirely more overwhelming to do anything constructive than caffeine. There's no way to quantify equal amounts of high based on different psychoactive drugs. Also, the way drugs affect spiders is probably much different than humans. The quantities are probably just assumed based on the weight humans are affected by them etc.
Interesting nonetheless.
Cocaine is way too short lived of a drug to really last the time needed to get through the trading day. The comedown is awful compared to the effects and often needs to be used in excess to get the effects desired which causes addiction and a whole host of other problems. It's also just about the most expensive drug out there. I know pit traders would do it in the 80's but they probably had a short lived career if they kept at it.
jokes aside, the best way is probably just simply eating well, getting good sleep, moderate caffeine at times, multivitamins, antioxidants, staying sober, regular exercise and just about anything else that would normally be contained in a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

I like coffee as much as the next guy, but my contention with the premise of this thread is that coffee and the energy rush you can get from caffeine can make you a better trader....and I say this based on something that is of paramount importance to trading....and that's patience.
If patience is something that's critically important to trading excellence, then anything that might circumvent patience is probably not a good addition.
Some say it helps with the tiredness they get from being up all hours of the night trading 24/7. I say the trader should find an instrument they can trade in their time zone that makes sense for them to maintain a normal sleep/wake cycle.
Its my opinion that trading can take over your life and traders can literally work around the clock. I call this borderline insane and certainly detrimental to your health. Humans require a certain amount of sleep each day. If you want to function at your max each day, then get enough sleep, eat better and exercise. All these will reduce or eliminate the need for excess caffeine.
Another reason I think caffeine is no good as a trading aid is the pulse rate. Trading naturally raises the heart rate, its a stressful activity with real money on the line and caffeine adds to this problem by increasing heart rate even more. This would make controlling your breathing and heart rate through techniques like mindfulness or biofeedback even harder.
After almost 6 months of experimentation, I learned that 7.5 hours of sleep is my optimum amount of sleep with about 8 hours on the weekend. This allows me to function at my best in the early morning without the aid of coffee. I used a sleep app on my iPhone to help me determine how much sleep I need and how more or less sleep affected my performance. This app allows me to track various factors that may or may not affect my sleep.
Long answer to basically say, no I don't think caffeine helps in my trading.

Water only. If you don't like the taste of water, then make it ice cold water. If you still don't like it, man up. It tastes good after you go through a withdrawals period getting off of the crap like red bull, coffee, coke, etc. I crave water. I don't crave coffee or other crap.
I like to eat. But when it comes to drinks, I've found it easy to drink only water. And the occasional beer when eating dinner out with friends. I would argue beer is still far better for you than coffee, coke or red bull.
So just use it over News times then, NFP and the like slow the 10minutes of madness into what'll feel like 2hours of calm slow trading, rather than my normal, ohhh it's going up, look again 15mins later ohhhh I forgot to check that doh!!
