In a previous job I built a room based on the 70 Series from Argosy. What can we build for you? - Argosy Studio and Technical Furniture. They are nicely put togther, and they have some built specifically for computer setups. Roughly $2k.

That and a HK Aero chair and you are set!

Right now I'm using an old Ikea desk.

Well I recently moved and I went friggin' nuts with Liquid Crystals.

Took all the better LCDs in my possession and came up with this.

LordAlfa's trade journal: Welcome to my LCD madness

It fits exactly on this 1.8m Ikea table. 5 Panels. I still have 3 more ports to spare. 2 HDMI and 1 DVI.

I am think of replacing the centre LCD with a 42" HDTV. The resolution will be lower. These 24s give me 1920 x 1200. The 42" HDTV will only give me 1080i but the HDMI port will be handy because I will not need separate speakers, the TV will output the sound from the HDMI port.

Here are some pics of my desk, I have done quite a few mods to the desk itself to silence and hide the computers it holds. The main workstation is in a danger den torture rack acrylic case which is mounted inside the slide-out printer cabinet. CPU/board are watercooled, all radiator fans are efficient/low noise and on the sides and rear of the desk are mounted large (150mm & 250mm) fans which provide high airflow (~100cfm) with very low noise. I also have quikRoof (aka dynamat) sound deadening material lining the insides of the desk so there is almost zero noise when the cabinet door is closed.

Of course my wife thought I had gone off the deep end when she came home and saw me boring holes in the solid cherry desk but I am pleased with it

There is also another computer on the other side (headless linux server) as well as external arrays for hot swappable SATA and SCSI devices and battery backup/UPS gear

I tried using an HDTV as a monitor once but it was WAY too bright even on the lowest brightness setting.. hurt my eyes after 20 minutes or so of looking at it up close.

I like your setup thought lordAlfa, interesting mix of landscape and portrait orientations. =)

Oh no, another geek with water-cooling, SLI video cards (not water-cooled, too bad ).
I'm trying to fight the noise too (but the noise won the last battle).
Anyway, nice workstation, nice work.

LOL. I have gone the other direction in the battle against noise. I have fanless gear where I can and my case fans are as big as will fit but I'm running two in series, making them spin at half speed. Funnily enough my CPU fan is now my loudest fan. I can actually hear it change speed when the load winds up.

A fanless power supply and a Zalman (or similar) CPU cooler should make my box almost silent.

Love the "built into desk" computer sefstrat

For those that are looking for workstation ideas, check out this gallery on the Ultramon website. I found plenty of inspiration when figuring out how I wanted my setup.
