If your running a 32 bit OS then it will only recognize 4GB regardless of how much you put in there. In order to take advantage of memory greater than 4GB you need to be running 64 bit OS.

Has any computer since Windows 7 came out many years ago not been x64? Certainly not any i7.

Yes, 32 bit computers still exists. In fact it is the most commonly sold computer to businesses running Win7. They generally run A lesser processor. My computer at work is 6 months old and has Win7 32 bit os with a i5 processor. As a side note; the i7 will run on 32 bit OS.

As of a couple of years ago the major computer manufacturers started migrating to the 64 bit os as the standard for retail customers.

Just an update on this thread. Optimising a strategy in NT8 takes memory to 14GB in about 2h. I have 32GB and the whole optimisation takes about 6h, with peak memory use of 18GB.
