100% agree. I used to own the largest fly-fishing supplies business in the Upper-Midwest, and I always got weird looks when I tried explaining to people what I did. I started off telling them that I owned and import and export business, that led to me telling them that I designed/produced/sold fly-fishing flies, that then led to people telling me that I operated a third-world-Kenyan-sweatshop, that led me to defend myself saying that I paid for the livelihood of 18 Kenyans and their families, and that led me to say that I started the business as “Made in America;” however, Americans wanted too much money per hour, and didn’t understand my overhead, how business worked, nor did they care about my bottom line. I had to deal with this for seven years until the market became saturated, and I got out of the business to peruse trading and house flipping full-time.
Trading has been the same thing over again. I just tell people that “I’m a cattle/beef, and cash crop farmer” now. The family that I married into doesn’t believe that anything is a real job or business unless they are the ones doing it. They could be trading, and it would be considered a real business by the family; however, if I do it, I’m not a real trader, and they just tell everyone else in the family that I’m making it up, and just trading a simulator account. So, that’s why I just tell people that I farm now (even though I do raise about 300 head of beef on our feedlot) instead of telling people that I speculate /ZC, /XC, /ZS, /XK, /CL, and /ES.

I never admit to being a trader. In the past the first thing people usually say is something along the lines of "oh you'll have to teach me" or "i'll be coming to you for tips!"... yea right....
