CL IB strategy took 2 trades today. 1 BE and 1 Loss before lunch. When second trade was entered by strategy, I was monitoring it and had a feeling that it's going to lose. Reason was a big IB before this trade that was going other way. But I did not try to interfere with strategy and let it do what it is coded to do. In afternoon I allowed strategy just to go for shorts, but there were no trades taken. I was a bit confused on weather I should continue, then decided to stop trading for the day at 1.40pm.
I have set-up another BOT on ES with same IB logic. But this one runs on 15 mins chart. I don't babysit this BOT too much because I am more concentrating on CL bot for now. ES bot had 12 ticks today. It's an experimental one. If it works consistently for 2 months I will consider trading it.
I have started reading Brett Steenbarger's "Daily Trading Coach" recommended by Big Mike in his thread. It's very interesting one. Hoping to get some more insights on my psychological behaviour and patterns when I am trading.
I have not read it completely but this is no doubt a great book. When I started trading as a newbie, I never realized that psychology has such a big role in trading. Anyone new to trading must read and understand Brett's book. I am reading this after losing money. There are some great tips that you can apply before you start your day with trading.
CL was looking choppy today. In afternoon it started moving down. So I allowed to make only shorts. But somehow afternoon IB got trapped and resulted in stop loss.
ES bot did not take any trades today. There were 2 IBs on ES, but their profit targets were inside S/R areas, strategy did not trade them.
I would like to know your thoughts on discretionary strategy like what I am doing right now. I control strategy myself on when to trade and when not to trade. My reason for going for a discretionary strategy is that I do not want to give complete control to bot and blindly wait for outcome. I tried that before and it was not profitable. At the same time I don't know how my discretionary strategy approach will work out. Did anyone tried that? If so please provide some feedback.
CL was in range during morning and looked very choppy. So I did not allow strategy to make any trades today. I made the right decision.
ES bot took 2 trades. first one was BE. It was a winner if there was no BE allowed in my strategy. But I don't want to change it for now as this may not be safe all the time. Second trade was spot on in afternoon. Perfect entry exits.
I am thing ES bot is making more mature decisions and require less attention from my side. Let's see how it does in next few days.
I think there are lot of people who has developed strategies and then gave up. I would like to know reasons behind that. If it's already discussed somewhere on this site please provide link to discussion.
I did not allow CL bot to take any trades today. I was not confident with movements of CL before options expiration day tomorrow. I did right thing as you can see most IBs were losers. I have noticed that usually options expiration week is not good for trading. This week ended up in negative territory for CL bot.
ES bot took 1 trade today but it was BE only. I will not be trading tomorrow because of options expiration day. Time to read some stuff.
I would give myself an 'F' grade for trading today. I was extremely busy with work. I should have just stopped strategies from running. That's because I can not monitor market when I am busy and when it gets choppy bot may take unnecessary trades. Anyhow, CL took one trade today that was a loser. Looking at the chart later, I concluded that I may have allowed that trade anyway. I have been testing CL bot over 4 months now. First 4 months were blindly running bot without any monitoring. Looking at it's past performance I feel that 5 mins chart is producing too many wrong signals. I am leaning toward 15 mins chart now. I will keep trading this bot for may be 1 or 2 weeks more and see if any change in performance. ES bot on 15 mins chart is more accurate so far. It's supporting 15 mins chart.
