Allocate 1.5GB RAM to Fusion/Windows. This means that you are left with 2.5GB for the MAC OS X. This is the settings I have on my MacBook Pro (17"). I also have a 2GB RAM MacBook (13.3") with Fusion/Windows allocated with 0.8GB RAM. I have Ninja running very well and satisfactorily fast on these two machines.
Meanwhile, increasing the RAMs of both machines would make the performance of both Fusion/Windows and MAC OS X to be much much better. I'm planning to increase my RAMs.

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I thought I would chime in on this one: I have been very disappointed with using laptops for trading , even high-powered ones. Even with a fast CPU and lots of RAM, laptops just seem inherently slower for some reason. My $4000 alienware laptop is is fairly fast for a laptop, but it is nowhere near as good at running ninjatrader or other demanding software as the $1000 tower PC I bought around the same time.
The other sucky thing about laptops is they require special drivers issued by the maker - the standard motherboard drivers, video drivers, etc will not work. Laptops also don't allow you to use extra cooling options in case you are going to be running your cpu hard.
In case anyone is considering Alienware, I would also like to mention that Alienware support sucks bigtime; they do not even bother to make current drivers available for users who bought their laptop in the past. I reinstalled windows just after my 1-year warranty ended, and I had to spend hours searching through forums on other sites to find the right drivers. Alienwere tech support would not even answer me.
Are you asking me? Yes, I have been successfully using the laptop for over a month now and am happy with it. I've never had any problems with the screen.
I don't trade with it, though I'm comfortable doing so if I needed to, but I do use Ninja a lot on it to watch/analyze the market and for indicator and strategy development, as well as back-testing.
I am running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit version on it. It's taken me a while to get used it's size due to the 18.4" screen but it looks great. It's not as mobile or portable as smaller ones, but most of the time it's exactly what I need.
Thank you...one more question...how do I go about allocating memory...I have done it long, long time ago...and completely forgot how to do it...can't find the "how' in Help...
Launch VMWare Fusion and select/click on Settings. This will popup a dialogue window containing all the settings you can make on Fusion. You'll select Processors & RAM since you want to set the RAM. Selecting Processor & RAM pops another dialogue window where you can make new setting for the RAM (See attached snapshots).
Hi guys I know this thread was written long ago but trading from laptops is like a an actual topic for me...how does it work to trade with a 4G connection instead of being hotwired like we do from home/office ?
I do work in Contsruction Supervision and do have some available time in the morning and after lunch and want to invest in the machine and the toys to get connected via a Verizon plan.
When asked, the people at AMP mentioned they have lot of customers that trade from not hot wired connections and from remote areas.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
No way I would even consider trading from a 3g or 4g connection. I don't manual trade but if I did wifi would not even be acceptable to me. Bad latency and and reliability problems can end your trading career. If you have an auto strategy on a remote server not bad to use a mobile connection to check on it when needed but to actually try to place trades over that connection is asking for trouble. Amp may have customers who do it but does not mean it is a good idea. Amp like many brokers also have many customers who blow up accounts. Sounds like they are just telling you what you want to hear to get you to open account. A broker looking out for your interests would tell you it can be done and some do it but would discourage it in my opinion.
"The day I became a winning trader was the day it became boring. Daily losses no longer bother me and daily wins no longer excited me. Took years of pain and busting a few accounts before finally got my mind right. I survived the darkness within and now just chillax and let my black box do the work."
