Just thought I would make my 1st post in futures.io (formerly BMT).
I know Big Mike had been looking for solution 2/3 years ago about setting up multiple mornitors (>2 mornitors) in Linux. I have been an Ubuntu users for 2+ years, but only on my non-trading station. Just wondering, anybody has any luck with setting up 3 or more monitors on Linux platform?
You can manage up to 12 screens (for example two Graphic Card with 6 display ports on each card).
You need to use at least one ATI/AMD Eyefinity Graphic Card ... don't forget to use active displayport converters if your screens have only DVI, VGA or HDMI connections ...
You need to configure xrandr via arandr'package that you need to install first.
You also need to install ATI/AMD drivers -> reboot -> start arandr -> save your screens configuration (to automatically launch the xrandr config at each start -> copy your screens configuration into /etc/X11/Xsession.d/45x11-xrandr).
@slickiam - Wanted to have sierra / some flavor of unix and wondering if the instructions provided in this thread - are they latest or do you happen to have any updated /recommended combination of components that you use?
Also - Any specific RDP tool that you can recommend for whatever this linux flavor you recommend.
Could you explain what you would like to use the RDP tool for? If you would like to set it up on a virtual environment so as to try it out, I recommend VirtualBox.
@tryingHard365 - thank you very much for your reply. Appreciate it.
Would certainly review about the first part.
On second part about RDP - I am planning to use it on a VPS - unix/wine/sc rather than windows/sc - and is the reason to check about potential solutions to access this serer using remote desktop tools. if the target was windows - it would have been "mstsc". On ubuntu 14.0x - I tried xrdp/xcfe combination and the experience was not that "snappy".
Another way is via VNC protocol and client. I have heard of people using remmina but those are mostly system administrators ( Remmina - The GTK+ Remote Desktop Client | SourceForge.net) but there may be other VNC clients you might try and like more. Also I am not sure about the 'snappiness' of this as it was ok for sysadmins but might be super frustrating for you.
I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have a somewhat automated trading program setup on SierraChart which you are trying to set up on a VPS? Personally would suggest that you write your trading program to run using your broker's API (e.g. IB API) and creating a real program to run it instead of running it through SC on a VPS. If you can program ACSIL, pretty sure you would be able to pick up other programming languages.
