I agree 100%. I prep my water every evening before bed time. I put a 44 oz gut buster cup of water (no ice) next to the computer and when I get up and hit the desk, its there already. First thing I do is take a nice long pull on the straw...I then nurse it the rest of the morning. At lunch I normally have the same size glass of tea (unsweetened) with ice and nurse that the rest of the day. So around 80oz of fluid every day. I should cut out the tea but I love it and its taken the place of soda for me. Baby steps I guess. I had a soda the other day and spit it out....it was so sickly sweet I couldn't take it.....and I love Coke over ice in a glass....but not so much anymore.

I have a Bubba Keg 52 that I refill countless times a day with ice water. I am walking about 5-6 miles a day so I can easily drink the whole thing the moment I get back, and I also drink one before I go out and also with dinner. Last, I fill it up before moving upstairs to the bedroom and it's usually gone before night.
All that water seems borderline unhealthy.....but I understand from Tim Ferris and his 4 Hour Body book that drinking ice water first thing in the morning is a great way to burn calories. Your core gets cold so you burn calories heating it back up. FWIW.
By the way, whats the normal temperature there?

Near perfect temps....I love San Diego for the same reason...but cost of living is easily many times as high....quick question, in watching the immigration problem here in the states with the unaccompanied children coming from central american countries, high crime was cited very often as a reason to come here.
I looked up the crime rates for several SA countries and discovered there is a fairly high crime rate all over central america and in some areas, much higher than even the worst areas of LA. However I know American's are moving to those countries at a pretty good clip, so my question is this, do you see much evidence of crime and secondly, how as an expat, how do you reconcile what appears to be a dichotomy of relatively well to do Americans moving to areas that potentially have higher crime rates than the cities they are leaving behind?

I drink a lot of cool water, I don't like ice in it because I find it harder to guzzle. I have a good habit of drinking entire glasses somewhere between 8-12 ounces all at once when I wake up, after a shower, usually with every meal. I heard by a doctor after I got a kidney stone that I should drink as much water throughout the day that my urine is pretty much clear/very light color.
Generally I find it a good habit to drink a full cup or two of water anytime I feel thirsty because you know that you're dehydrated even when you're not thirsty. I know it definitely increases cognition from reading many health related facts different places. I usually never drink soda unless I'm eating out on rare occasions because I want to avoid diabetes that runs in my family. I hardly ever drink alcohol anymore as I'm strictly sober these days which makes life entirely more manageable, but when I do it's on a rare social occasion and I usually only have one drink mostly for taste.
I don't crave coffee because I don't drink it everyday but I'm considering giving it up all together as I'm becoming more acclimated to waking up in the morning time. I have felt a lot more focus the last couple days I've been drinking it but I'm sure it won't last as I'll need more and more. When I used to drink a lot of coffee when I was in sales I'd get heartburn. I'm considering taking a walk in the morning instead. I don't crave sugar from soft drinks anymore either, just about the only thing I do crave is protein or carbohydrates.
I think psychologically a lot of us see it as the least of all evils to indulge in, but as Buddha tells us indulgence is one of the causes of suffering. So is desire but that's a tricky one to explain to many who aren't familiar with living through the paths of meditation.

My take is that this question of using caffeine / coffee is a somewhat individual issue.
So here's my slant on it, and I only mean it for me, not as a universal prescription. But I'm not in favor of it as a trading aid, and I doubt that it works very well. Probably the opposite.
1. I regard caffeine (coffee) as either an unrecognized essential vitamin, or an under-appreciated miracle drug. Just ask me in the morning.
2. I'll have a really huge mug of it in the morning when I get up (about 5:00 AM Eastern), plus about an equal amount of water. I'll have a little more during the day, off and on. Water also.
3. While it helps to wake me up, and I do sip at it during the day, I do not use it to get hyped up for trading. I think that being hyped up for trading is about as smart as driving while drunk. Once it has helped me wake up, I am not looking to get hyped.
4. I want my mind to be steady, not excited, while I am working on any task, and certainly when it's something like trading. Ideally, I think trading should be sort of a routine job, not something where I'm all excited, whether due to a stimulant or just crazy gambler's fever (greed or fear). I prefer not to trade in either a stimulated or feverish state of mind. You lose money doing that.
So, my take on the original question is that using coffee, or any stimulant, to make your trading better is probably just a mistake for most people, and certainly it would be for me. I like the stuff, in moderation, but trading in an essentially altered state of mind would be a pretty serious mistake, and I think it would show up as such on your bottom line.
Some posters in this thread have written about such things as getting enough sleep and healthy habits. Generally better ideas, I would say.

Edit: "healthy habits" does not necessarily rule out beer at the end of the day. Just wanted to make that clear. It is, after all, in the essential food groups.
I love coffee - but have recently cut down massively. The benefits are clear. However .... clearly caffeine enables time travel. This took me back. Tks @Itchymoku !
