My favorite weapon I've ever fired, the M240B medium machine gun. High rate of fire, accurate, and dependable. Would choose it any day over an M2. Sadly where this photo was taken is now firmly in enemy territory.
Yes I did quite a bit more than ONE day of service. Not sure what that has to do with enjoying firearms though. I met plenty of military personnel that could operate a xerox machine better than they could a rifle.
I read that there are some weapon lovers that were in US military for quite some time.
Of course my question was provocative. It is not my intent to hijack the OP's thread here.
The profound question is about what a weapon can initiate...
Some posters meant to protect their family: but how and in which situation?
Some others post that the police in the US is not organized enough to protect its
civilians.
The fact is that the US police kills more innocent people per week than the whole EU during
a year.
Just think about the fact that less weapons could make less disaster...
Of course there is no stronger force than the US weapon lobby
This has very much to do with collecting weapons privately and to not secure them properly from misuse.

who was in service more than a year in military for a neutral country - having the military weapon
always at home with ammunition all the time during 20 years as it is foreseen by the law.
But in our country we do not have that high death toll because of misuse - fortunately.

picked up a Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911...in 9mm??!! ..lol yeah I can hear everybody cringe
-though I've slowed down quite a bit, I still shoot upwards around 20,000 rounds of ammo from my sidearm a year. 45acp vs 9mm ammo costs make this a no brainer for a training gun.
Interesting topic. In my opinion it's one of those topics that "you do or you don't" and not much movement will come to your viewpoint from someone else's comments. I can accept and appreciate either side as credible, as long as it's their own and not intended to be an insinuation or an expectation for the other. "To each his own" comes to mind, but when push comes to shove, I prefer to not be the victim. My gratitude to all of those military in this post as you have my sincere gratitude and respect. This is one of the times I don't like written words in place of conversation as I prefer to look you straight in the eye while shaking your hand. Seriously, Thank You. Without this group, we couldn't even have this conversation.
