I'm indeed thinking of using the alert status 'High' and the time of news release to trigger a 'return' routine something like:
if(JtEconNewsAddIn(5 minutes before news 'High', 5 minutes after news 'High') return;
I thought I have read something on John's blog that this is possible. I don't know if it needs those special measures you are talking about. Maybe John can help us out.

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I'm going to put out an update soon that will expose a dataseries that can be used in a strategy. The data series will contain a value indicating the importance level of the next pending news event. It will start setting this value n minutes before and after the event depending on what you set for the warning periods.
So you could do something a simple as....
if (jtEconNewsAddIn().NewsSeries[0] == 3) return;
or have the strategy close any open positions, etc.
Anyone having problems with this indicator on NT 7.0.1000.5?
After loading it, NT is working very slowly, becoming 'unresponsive' (and even reporting as much) for many seconds.
WORST OF ALL: it reports no news events, but returns the following error message:
News load error: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
The last time I successfully used this indicator was on 6.5, way last year. I hate trading without it.
I will not use the 'add in' version. There is no way I'm going to give up 15% of my screen real estate!
