Just watched this on HBO last night. Overall good movie, just reminded me of Twister a lot. And and that just reminds me of how much I like Bill Paxton...
Just watched this about 10 times. Can't wait to see this one. I've read several books on Bulger. He was one scary dude. Apparently, Depp resembled Bulger so closely, that several of the people from Southie brought in to consult on the film wouldn't look him in the eye. That's quite a testament to the actor and to the criminal that he is portraying.
I guess I'll find a documentary about him and watch it. I also heard the departed was based on him too? I enjoyed watching the documentary about Danny Greene. I wonder if they knew each other considering they were both born around the same time, informants, and associated with the Irish Mob even though they were in different cities.

Yes, The Departed's Frank Costello is loosely based on Bulger. Bulger and Greene were not acquainted from what I've read though. I recently rented Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger on Amazon which I thought was pretty good. It goes a bit into his trial and "informant" status with the FBI.
