The direct distance from Bangkok to Chicago is 13.750 km. For trading you need to consider both the transmission of trade data and order routing, you will therefore need to take into account a roundtrip latency based on 27.500 km.
A signal that travels through a fiber optical cable cannot travel at a higher speed than about 60% of the speed of light, which would be 180.000 km/s. Your best - theoretical obtainable - round trip latency can therefore by calculated as 153 ms. Note that this is only a theoretical value, which can not be obtained with real equipment.
If you use satellites latency will be about 500 ms, as a geostationary satellite has a distance of about 36,000 km from earth.
Conclusion: You cannot bring down the latency from Bangkok to Chicago to 50 ms, at least not in this universe.

Fat Tails,
You are absolutely right. Best ping test from Singapore to Chicago is around 280 to 320 ms with direct cable and fibre optics respectively at 100 mbps broadband speed.
The delay in data feed can be as high as 1 min with PFG connection

hey u dont really need '100mbps', anywhere on this region with reasonable connection is about 250-350ms.
the only 'real' problem is the quality of the connection, if you have too many lost packets, it'll have real big impact even the delay number is small
