A few words or sounds uttered has no power or special transforming ability to it. It has to have deep rooted meaning to you. If it's just something in another language or a sound it could just as well be any sound.
Sorry I don't want to be some kind of party pooper but we have to keep our practical feet about us. And in order to have life changing permanent and lasting effects it needs to have a incredible rational foundation so in the long run you believe it and keep believing it. Because, it goes straight to your core and refreshes your soul ,your very being becomes uplifted, revived, invigorated and re-created each time.
Here is an example of a meditation I use:
Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face. Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all thine acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility.
That is a surprise! The one I was given as a young kid (actually same as my 7 year older brother's) is on the second list.
I switched to using some words in English as I developed my own thing.
Whatever works.
Possibly worth adding, I used my flavor of meditation this week to good effect.
Early in the week walking past a building having floors added, a bag of mortar fell from the 5th floor landing an inch my toes. I was shocked and disturbed on a deeply cellular level, it had enough force to crack the footpath under my Mizunos.
Somewhat consciously (but very subconsciously) discombobulated, my discretionary trading game was dreadful but after a couple of failed attempts I managed to find the quiet place on Wednesday and Thursday and today's results were closer to normal.
There are experiences that are white hot and nothing is going to cool them until some time passes but knowing you have something reliable to quench after that is wonderful.
I've meditated on and off for a couple years now but since last October I haven't missed a day, I recommend it to everyone that I think will listen.
I mostly just sit comfortably and follow my breaths, sometimes counting, other times focusing on the feeling of breathing, sometimes I repeat a word that has some significance to me at the time, but most importantly realizing as my self awareness starts to slip away and I start to become my thoughts and gently bringing myself back.
I've found that having a way to track my meditation has helped in getting me across the everyday threshold, I noticed the Runkeeper app has meditation as one of it's activities so I just use stopwatch mode and set it to notify me at 20mins and somehow knowing that I can look back to see if I missed a day keeps me from missing a day.
Meditation is not a quick fix but it definitely works, day to day I don't see big improvements but when I look back I can see how lost I was, and yet still how far I have to go.
I meditated 3 times today. It's very new to me and very exciting experience.
One of the things that happens, i see green colors/lights.
I googled it and i found this :
I started working on some code, i had postponed too long, I didn't feel in the mood, until today
That is my first good experience, but i realize i still have to go a long way..
Tomorrow afternoon, again checkup with my teacher.
hey guys - i found this thread interesting as i am a firm believer in meditating regularly which has been beneficial for me in trading and in every day life. i meditate and center myself every morning before trading, atleast once during the session, and after trading every day. i also practice warrior trading, (Way of the Warrior Trader by Dr Richard McCall). which is a great book for anyone here looking to improve their trading / performance in anything, or just become more connected with the universe.
anyways, glad to see others in the trading world also appreciate meditation. until now i had not seen much on the forum related to this, but there should be!
