No I haven't. Tested way back and the recovery disk stopped me. I think they now have a windows based recovery environment.
I mod on Wilders Security forum, and they host Paragon's forums. I think it would be safe to say the Wilders users who use Paragon are pleased with it.
I stick with ShadowProtect, because I've torture tested it and it's never failed.
I recently started the free trial for Memopal and discovered that you can not control the time of day that the backup occurs. I'd like to find an off site backup that you can specify the time of day you'd like the backup to occur and that has the features of Memopal
Jeff - With mozy you can select a specific time (I use midnight) or you can have it backup when you're idle.
Peter - I use both USB for an entire image of the disk and Mozy just for backing up important files (like my NT backups). I'm using the free mozy so it doesn't cost anything.
I think the nice thing about mozy/memopal is it's automatic so you can forget about it. I set it up on my wife's computer and now I don't have to remember to back up her files..

Just wondering what is the bare minimum that I need to back up to restore the computer onto a new drive should the C: drive fail? As in programs and data.Do I need to back up the MBR and all of C:.
I understand the backing up of data. It is the programs and stuff that has me tricked
Do the online version allow for this or because of the size a program or even Windows backup is sufficient to use. As long it is onto another drive. I guess an external HD that can be disconnected the way to go.

The best way to go on this is with an imaging program, such as Shadow Protect. It puts everything you need into the image, so you can recreate the partition, mbr, and disk signatures if needed. I routinely image, and to test my images, I delete the volume which essentially wipes out the disk, and then do a full restore. These images can also be mounted as a disk, and you can retrieve individual files.
Depending on your needs Shadow Protect has a unique feature, that automatically takes incrementals as frequently as every 15 minutes. At the end of the day it collapse those into a daily incremental. All automatically, and you never feel it run. The incrementals typically take 10 seconds or so.
Use a backup like shadowprotect (I use trueimage) and backup to a removeable USB. Preferably backup daily to an internal hard drive and monthly to a removeable USB drive that you store offsite. If you want use mozy free 2gig to backup just your most critical data, for me it's NT indicator code and the backups I do from NT, plus my excel spreadsheets, trading plans, etc. THis is what I do. Triple protection for critical files, double protection for everything.
