Everybody with a weight over 190 pounds should be obliged to select a user name starting with "Fat", and have her/his body mass index regularly published on every Sunday in the newly created thread: Body Management for Traders.
Rule #1 -> False, should read "Don't eat pigs".
Rule #2 -> Only partly true, exercise is not enough, it is more important to avoid physically inactive periods at any time of the day
Rule #3 -> that is what the Nazis tried, and I am not really a fan of their methods
Also the most important thing is not to waste the time, we've got here. Avoid quarreling, be in sync with your environment. I remember the 1st chapter of Malcolm Gladwell's book "Outliers", which tries to explain the good health of the inhabitants of a Pennsylvanian village called Roseto. See below
BMI is a poor measurement - it was created over a hundred years ago. Today, a number of methods can measure body composition much more accurately. If your doctor still references BMI, find yourself a new doctor.
There is a condition I like to call skinny fat: "normal weight" person who fits into "normal" size clothes but carrying a high percentage of bodyfat.
The majority of thin and inactive people fall into the skinny fat category. They often are not healthier than the "overweight" person who is cardiovascular fit and runs half marathons.
Back on topic: cleaning up my diet and lifestyle has directly contributed to my trading success over the past year. I have a much more positive attitude and I think more clearly throughout the trading day.
I use a number of strategies to maintain a healthy diet. 1. Always eat a solid breakfast. I eat some variation of low fat omelet. I prep the ingredients at the start of the week so I can whip up breakfast in a short period of time. 2. Eat 5- 6 meals a day 3. Consume the bulk of my non fibrous carbs following weight training sessions 4. Use protein shakes for the mid morning , mid afternoon meals. Saves time, and keeps me light, energetic throughout trading session.
Specific details vary on whether I'm trying to build muscle or lean out, but I never find myself hungry.
When I worked on an institutional trading floor, we would discuss what we were going to order for lunch, shortly after finishing breakfast! I remember some great feasts but that environment made it impossible to be healthy.
The second thing I would recommend that you focus on is sleep.......also no small thing. Eating within 2 hours of going to bed is not a good idea.....your sleep will not be truly restful as your body is trying to deal with all the food you just put in it.
Remember......this will be the beginning of a journey.....one step at a time. You can not change overnight...... the changes will have to be made incrementally.
