*** candle to 17:00 came down to 15238... so the goal was reached on this trade
Tomorrow last day of November...
December 17th: TRIPLE WITCH on 4th quarter
From then the movements will no longer be strong as the main important members at the stock markets will not change anything. The reality will come back in the midst of January when the first results from the large companies will dictate the markets 2022 again.
HI @Symple
I run the DAXM (mini future with 5 EUR/point) so margin is about 5'000 EUR. I try always to be in range of 30 points. but as @GFIs recently mentioned, in those volatile times, jumps can be much higher and this can be also a bad strategy: only losses are realized then while trying to limit the losses...
Here I show you the actual margins for the standard DAX future as well as the smaller one:
You see the initial margin (intraday) for the first contract - and the intraday maintenance.
Both graphs are from today.
Gains on the FDAX 25 EUR per point, FDXM 5 EUR per point.
About my journal here:
• It is up nearly 10 years (started in February 2012)
• Trading with IB since before the start of the journal
• Margins were MUCH lower in 2012+
• Stop loss settings were 30 points (normal) and 40 points for special days
• Skipped those strong settings since quite a time as the volumes and volatility are higher today
• As you can read in the journal here I had exceptional trades with a loss of more than 100 points
• On the positive side I had some gaining trade points with much more than the max. loss of one trade
About the "journals" section here on fio:
Most of the journals I read here are not clearly declaring if a showed trade is live or not.
In this journal I give exact entry time and exit time - normally before taking the trade. The reader can follow the development of the trade.
The goal of my trading is to limit screen time which is evident for me. The system helps me indeed to do so.
Hi @Symple,
There are also brokers that require a smaller margin.
If you trade smart (using SL and having a money management system in place), that could be helpful if your balance is not too high, but you would like to trade anyway.
Upon request, Edge Clear can work with a 1000 USD margin for FDXM (not sure what the conditions are, if any), and FDAX 10.000 USD.
There is also ticker FDXS for 1 EUR/point, but the volume is low and the spread not good at all.
Good luck,
Deetee
Thanks to all of you for your information and detailed answers. I have never traded the Dax, so was wondering about it as I read from to time here in this thread. I have only ever traded the American market. This was always in hedged form when it came to futures trading to reduce my risk and also to reduce the margins, which are in some cases really low. By looking yesterday at the moves in the Dax market and then compared the entry level from @GFIs1 shown trade and the current level at those moment, I could see a different of 75 point and then those question I asked came up.
Later on I had "Swissquote", which is based in Zurich, on the phone and I just asked what margin they have for the Dax Future. The answer was surprising, as the woman spoke of no less than EUR 41,000 for just one contract if not hedged.
Many years ago I casually asked "IB" about the same topic and they talked about EUR 15'000 for a contract, even hedged.
Any way, I wish further much success in the Dax future trading. I even see the gap from Fridays close to Mondays opening is closed, which I expected to happen earlier or later. But this now was a quick one.

edit 10:35 - time to see DAX during cash kills the 15k line too soon
edit 14:50 - some news on the Corona line came in - means the DAX didn't test the 15k line
