If you are referring to latency increasing as bandwidth availability goes down on a typical Cable connection then sure. But if you are not fully saturating your line then latency is somewhat consistent, and not dependent upon bandwidth.
For example, upgrading from a 10Mbps to 25Mbps connection, or 25Mbps to 50Mbps, etc, will make no change in latency.
Obviously there are some commercial choices where you could improve your latency with a private line and higher prioritization from major telco's but I was mainly aiming my response at the average member who wants to know if going from 25Mbps to 50Mbps will improve his trading.
No, don't do it if you have cellphone service (e.g. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile). Triple Play is *never* worth it over Double Play unless you need a landline.
Next, if you want more bandwidth, just ask Comcast to upgrade your internet service. Their customer service is trained to tell you to reconsider Triple Play and urge you to think that they are offering you some great, one-off offer, but in my experience, it is never worth it.
Lastly, @Big Mike is mostly right. Do you find yourself hitting 7.5 MB/s download rates very often? If not, you're being bottlenecked outside of Comcast's network and will have nothing to gain from upgrading.
Time Warner Cable in Cary, NC (Research Triangle Park). We originally had 15/1, which TWC just upgraded "free" to 50/5 (if you had a decent DOCSIS 3.x modem). For another $10/mo I went ahead and upgraded to 100/10 - all in (with "standard" cable TV, digital phone and internet) is ~$200/mo. Would personally drop the TV and phone but wife vetoed .
Ping to either IB servers (gw1.ibllc.com or gw1.chicago.ibllc.com) is 45-50ms.
Fiber connection. Not sure if it´s dedicated or shared. At least the modem (which is also a wi-fi router) has a single fiber line comming into it. The test was made over wi-fi.
It´s supposed to be symmetrical (same download and upload speeds). Not bad. Pretty fast for everything I do.
And not very expensive as well. Using today´s conversion rate (1 USD = 3.7 BRL) it costs me about 40 USD/month. Considering that I used to pay twice that for a much crappier connection, this sounds very good.
