This morning I received a flurry of new private messages regarding forum reputation (Market Wizard status) suddenly fluctuating in a dramatic way overnight.
I'm posting my reply here:
No change in the formula. The formula ranks all users and uses the top rankings as kind of a floor, so if an old user is no longer active for example and they get dropped off the Market Wizard list, it can cause a ripple effect. If you look at the list, it has some old inactive users on it still like ThatManFromTexas because he was so popular for so long, even though he has passed away or hasn't logged on for a long time.
I'm not going to make any changes to this formula right now, it will have to wait for the new framework. Please don't allow it to hinder your contributions.
Regarding the 'Thanks' vs 'Like' buttons - how about implementing both?
'Thanks' is a lot more appropriate to me on this forum as I can express my gratitude to others for providing me with useful information or teaching me something new. Likewise, for me a 'like' is too similar to facebook etc where it has become almost meaningless and a passing thought of 'yeah I kind of agree'.
I don't think a "dislike" or "no thanks" button is quite what we want (), however, this quote from that article did get me thinking, in terms of what "like" means (or at least, what it may mean sometimes):
“Not every moment is a good moment, and if you are sharing something that is sad, whether it’s something in current events, like the refugees crisis that touches you, or if a family member passed away, then it may not feel comfortable to like that post,” Mr. Zuckerberg said.
That would be a reason to choose "Thanks" over "Like." Thanks is kind of less ambiguous in those situations, perhaps.
@Big Mike, I've been noticing some strange stuff going on all day with the ads on the site. I saw a bunch of them before it occurred to me to let you know about them.
I made some screen shots to make it more clear. The first 3 shots apparently have Adobe Flash ads. These normally just run automatically, but these all have that little arrow button to run them. The last shot has just a plain ad, no Flash. Here's what happened when I clicked on the button or ad:
-------------------
Number 1 didn't run anything when button was clicked, went straight to the Sierra Chart web site.
---------------------
Number 2 ran Kinetic ad when button was clicked.
----------------------
Number 3 went to Sierra Chart web site.
----------------------
Number 4 was a static ad apparently (had no button), went to T4 site.
----------------------
It could just be on my end, of course, but they've been running Ok before today, and I'm not aware of any updates I downloaded for Flash Player or Chrome, which is what I'm running.
