I flipped to AMD at the last minute. One day later and I probably would have owned the Asus Z87-A with Intel Xeon 1230 V3.
But, that motherboard went on deep sale, I paid $82.99 after shipping. And it was one of the four listed in Puget's list of top reliability for 2013, plus has (3) PCI x16 slots. Then I did a quick rundown of AMD processors and found that X4 760k to be the best bang for the buck, value rating of 50 or some where in there. Quad core, etc. Got a 4000ish cpu mark, but the one I trade on today is 500, so not even close to being downgrade.
It kind of became a game of the best that could be built for the least $, and I am excited about seeing what it does. if it tanks, not much lost. If it flies, you will see photos all over this page!!! LOLOLO!!!
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Traded 4 markets with my Sony 2GB ram "tank" today. Started around 4:30am EST. Won in all, smallest was $250. Final trade was one more $100+, just because it was too obvious. Not that it was needed...
On a Pentium 4 2005 Sony Vaio. net $2k+ on the day.
The motherboard I ordered got sold out before they could ship mine, or something like that. They are refunding my order. The mobo was what lead me to the processor, and now I am starting over. The good of it is that it caused me to look at AMD in greater detail than I had before, caused me to learn to look up performance comparisons on other components, learn more about what is offered in Asus' line of AMD mobos, and the big win for me in missing that previous mobo... learning about the FM2+ socket. If I stay AMD, FM2 without the + is off the list. I was disappointed about not being able to move forward, but maybe it was meant to be.
My choice of power supply still has a lot of room. I am going to buy it last, after I know exactly what is going into the build. I recently started learning about XFX Core power supplies, some of which are rebranded Seasonics.
Since my mobo was cancelled, I went back to looking at processors. This list shows some of the highest rated processors that are a good value per cpu mark.
I will, either way. I was headed down the path of best value for what I need, and believe I can build that machine for 6 monitors for under $600. But since my motherboard got cancelled I may go back into the $800 range. It just became a game to see how inexpensively I could do it. And of course to learn a lot about how it all works.
Yes, I was noticing that after I made that spreadsheet. Runs more on less, and from what I know the biggest enemy is heat. I am really leaning towards the Xeons.
