I am planning a combine soon. Reading your journal is inspiring. Thank you for posting.
For myself I think I am going to go in 1/5 the max size till I build a cushion. Then progress to 1/3 the size. Once I am at about 1/4 or 1/3 to the target I will graduate to half max size. I have done 2 unsuccessful combines before and early drawdowns cut me off at the knees cause recovery was too steep.
I am going to focus on 1 choice set up. For building my cushion. Once I have a cushion I will progress to attempt to build to the target.
A point on volatility, if adr increases that means your atr increased. Stop sizes that worked before for myself need to be adjusted. For myself in the es I have had to increase initial hard stops by about 1/4 or 1/3. This doesn't mean I'm not dialing stops down as we clear structure, just initial needs more space to account for volatility.
These both sound to me like excellent principles for Combine-passing. I've seen plenty of people with profitable methods failing Combines through a combination of overtrading, impatience and excessive position-sizing. Good luck!
Come on man, as long as you keep the contracts low, you are doing fine. Yesterday you went 10 contracts again and got your second biggest loss. Keep it 3 contracts max. until you make it to positive territory. Or average up when winning....
