The forum has to move to a ranking based system where content is ranked according to its value.
On my blog, I attached at the end of each article a "Rate This" star system where people rank the article without identifying themselves. So the ranking shows me if the content was valuable, and it shows how many people voted.
This helps me understand what traders perceive as valuable content or BS.
F.IO Members should be able to rank what is written without identifying themselves as well.
Make a three star system: 1. This helped me 2. Somehow helped 3. No Value.
Show how many people voted for each category, and what is the total star score for each member.
This would give people feedback about their own content and make people put an extra effort.
Content is King.
My 2 cents.

Last night whilst falling asleep I was thinking about this idea.
What if we remove the monetary aspect, but keep the "scarcity" of it?
What I mean by this is with the "Gold" idea, it wouldn't be something that John would get everyday, but rather on occasion.
It would be only for the best posts that people would get Gold, hence creating a scarceness behind the idea.
What if we keep that idea but ditch the money part.
We give everyone a "Gold" limit. Free. Let's say I have 5 "golds" to gift in a quarter (20 a year). This would make the value even to all givers since they all have the same amount.
Yes. I make a little progress on it every week, but haven't had time yet to show a new public beta. The old beta site is up even now. I'm still working with the developer to try and get a new public beta ready.
I just don't understand the point of this. What is the point of scarcity? Suppose you have given all your allotted gold Thanks -- 5 or whatever -- and then a sixth, really, really great post comes along? Do you just say, Oh well, my bank is empty, so I can't give this one a "gold"?
Why is this a good idea?
I understand scarcity in an economic context. You pay more for things that are valuable and in short supply. What you pay is a way of rationing the scarce resource. That's easy to understand.
I don't understand why it is a good idea to make recognition for good contributions into something that has to be scarce. Sure, not everything is equally good, and some things are outstanding, and yes, it would be nice to say so. (You could, for example, say so in a post of your own. It would probably convey something, too.)
I am very much in favor of giving recognition to people. I don't get the idea of restricting it.
Sure, I understood about the "gold" as not the same as "Thanks," but as something additional.
Anyway, I'm out of thoughts about it now . I am not really tied to any point of view about it either. Whatever works for everyone is fine by me. I hope something does come out of this discussion.
I just want to say that I personally don't find the idea of 'scarcity' viable.
It may be that I am perhaps coming from a philosophical stance on this but I believe that the scarcity route always leads to negativity. I always tend to encourage people to think in terms of abundance rather than of scarcity.
A more general question: what's wrong with the current 'thanks' system? (Am I opening a can of worms? )
The following suggestion may or may not have been already put forward, but how about complementing the current thanks function with a bookmark function: have the ability to bookmark a specific post (in addition to threads you subscribe to), and see how many people have bookmarked that post.
One may want to thank a post for its contribution but not necessarily bookmark it, and viceversa.
