All this copy and paste of anti-nuke made up fiction half truth twisted stories from a Google search just prove the point. Any intelligent concerned can refer to various reports by the NRC and the US National Science Foundation, the people in the know, to get the real facts. But, why bother?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
You wouldn't mind pointing out the 'anti-nuke made up fiction half truth twisted stories' parts would you? I mean just for the sake of argument you know.
And I would most likely add that you can claim half truths if you like. I prefer them to the outright lies coming from the pro nuclear industry.
There ARE developed countries using 0 nuclear power plants - and there will be soon more countries (like Germany)
leaving their nuclear period behind.
Italy eg. - had never built a nuclear power plant.
Maybe they have a secret outlet in the Vatican? Vatileaks will tell
I like how the biggest enemy's of nuclear power usually know very little about it or live no where near a plant to be affected by it. Yet the biggest supporters either live next to or work in the plants.
Chernobyl Unit 4 was commissioned in 1983 and exploded in 1986, which doesn't sound like 50 years to me, but maybe that would be dog years. Or alligator years.
The explosion occurred during a test in which the safety systems were intentionally overridden, so the logic of bound to happen because it was 50 years old with the say of the then Soviet government is lost on me.

But what does this have to do with anything, anyway? Sounds like we are beside ourselves with unbridled fanboi enthusiasm.
The rules of discourse wisely enforced on this forum preclude my expressing some of the personal opinions that have come to mind regarding you'se fanboiz.
I hope Miike is not telepathic.

>>The great tragedy of the Fukushima accident is that Japan shut down all its nuclear reactors.
OK, here is the POV from someone on the ground in Japan.
The nukes are all shut down. The industry and govt. said it would kill Japan not to have nukes. The economy would die. Guess what, we're not dead yet!
Well, it turns out just not to be true. We hit peak electrical load in record August heat and no brownouts. Turns out we don't need nukes and the public now knows it, and knows it has been lied to.
In fact, in 2013, Japan has deployed five nukes worth of solar panels. That is an unprecedented rollout. I drive through the countryside and I see solar farms everywhere. Next year the deployment will be double that. It will take several years, but Japan will cover those offline nukes with solar alone.
And meanwhile vast amounts of other Japanese renewable energy technologies are gonna be developed and sold, in Japan and abroad.
So, from an economic POV, I see this situation as Win-win.
I agree with Suko about the positive impacts. Which will hopefully be good for those who eventually manage to survive this disaster.
