Does anyone know how to get a properly scaled chart in NT7?
To be most effective visually or otherwise, charts should have a squared scaling. That is to sat the x axis and the y axis should be both constant and in the proper relationship. How can that be achieved on NT&, does anyone know? DB
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
a sad suprise as square scaled charts are the only real way to get an accurate visual of price action. I love the oe integration NT has with my broker but if NT charts cant conform I'll have to get Wave and the broker to work something out.
I know how you feel bud. I would like squared charts as well.
There are two options that I know of:
I can't remember where I got it from, so I have attached it below. But this indicator attempts to normalize all your price bars. But it is still imperfect as it has a lookback period. You'll see on your chart that it is STILL dependant on the data you have on your chart. The bars will still expand and contract occasionally, just less than before.
You can do it manually. By left-click and hold inside the right margin where thep price values are, and drag to the size you want your bars. At this point your bars will always remain un-fixed to the volatility you dragged them to. As the price moves up and down though higher than the size of your chart, you will have to hit Ctrl+Left-Click and hold in the right margin in the chart to drag your price bars back into view. Upside is that your bar size will remain un-fixed, downside is that it can be tedious to do if you use more than one chart.
I've tried that indicator as well and agree it is limited. I need to have control of my chart scales as well. Drives me nuts that they change or that they are not all the same.
that makes three of us that know this NT chart scaling is untenable. The notion of time/price must be kept in a uniform and properly ratioed display. While I love the chart trader and the super dom and the way they integrate with my broker, I am not sure NT has the stuff on the analytic side to carry the day.
I will try to go deep at NT to see if they can consider fixing thier charts. The result may be that a three month lease is the only relationship we have. In the mean time Im going to try to import or recreate a number of valuable indicators and trading methods that have worked for me. DB
You only need your charts to be uniformly scaled for the session you trade right? I.e. you could have a slightly different scale from day to day, and it wouldn't affect you much, or do you need it to be the same across many sessions you trade on a particular instrument?
You are either lucky or smart! Ideal would be "always" but "session" or actually what is in view will be fine. The thing is that when x-axis changes, y-axis changes the same. When you look at theses NT charts and the price axis decrement is 2 ticks a ten tick bar looks like a breakout...that is nonsense.
Now for the scaling to be most useful the charts also must be able to display calendar days
instead of trading days. There aren't too many packages who can do that. Ensign and Wave59
are the one i know about. Wished Multicharts and/or Ninja could do that. That would make my day!
Well I was thinking, that if you only need your scale constant for a session, or particularly what is in view, did you not like the "option 2" I posted above?
At least that way you'd have your scale constant for your session. If you really wanted to get exact, you could even use say the top portion of a window browser to size up 5 pips of movement.
