Lately I've noticed more and more discussions in the off-topic section of the forum which I don't personally approve of. Part of me says "it's ok, it builds a community to allow people to talk with each other about stuff other than trading", but then the other part of me says "some of this stuff has no place on futures.io (formerly BMT)".
Aside from personally deciding what is allowed and what isn't, the easier decision is probably to get a consensus on whether or not you guys feel the entire off-topic section should be allowed to continue, or if it should be closed. I would leave the Jokes and Tech Support section, but basically it would mean discussion of more or less anything else would no longer be allowed in the off-topic areas.
Forgot to mention, I could create a Sports subforum, so basically we would have Tech Support, Sports, and Jokes, but we would get rid of the other stuff, mainly political, religion, war, money, type posts.
Looking through this section it appears to be surprisingly active with a wide variety of topics.
If you lock the "Off-Topics" section, the political discussions will just move to the "News and Current Events" section. The "News and Current Events" section is just waiting for these discussions.
Sports discussions can get just as heated as political and religeous discussions. Jokes can also go too far to be fit for public consumption.
Having a place to post a wide variety of topics such as why a popular active member is missing is very useful.
Perhaps you should just put up one of your banners in the section to warn against whatever topics you want to exclude.
futures.io (formerly BMT) is marked as my default site everytime i log online.
I truly enojy this site, and for what it is,....in every way.
This is a community. It is an experience
And as a community we will not always agree, and i don't think that we ought to.
We as humans are not built to have a hive like mentality.
Here in the futures.io (formerly BMT) we are traders first!
And there is a very strong reason as to why we have so much passion to be in this business in the first place.
Just think about the nature of an individual that makes the choice in his life to become a trader.
As a community (in my opinion) we need an off-topic vent,
as much as we need the sports and any other off topic venue.
And i believe it to be the true statement that if you take this room out,
the topic will inevitably move to the news section of the site.
Being passionate individuals we want to reach out to other passionate individuals
It's only natural.
At the end of all dialogue, Michael, this is your site.
You navigated thus far with great gusto
And we are on this ride with you for a reason...............
Any decision that you end up making will I'm sure be in the best interest of the futures.io (formerly BMT) forum,
and may not end up to be a decision that everyone will agree with but will respect never the less.
