I'm a current user of Thinkorswim, but thinking of moving to a better IB for futures trading. I'm currently using the Mirus/Zen-Fire demo account, but my connection drops very often. Does it happen in live accounts also?
If I use Mirus, AMP or other Zen-Fire IB, is there any difference as far as connection is concerned? Is Ninja Trader connect directly to Zen-Fire or the connection passes through the IB?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Are you sure the connection is dropping from Zen, or dropping from the historical server (which NinjaTrader itself hosts on behalf of Zen)?
I get disconnected from the NT historical server occasionally (maybe two to three times a week). Otherwise NT runs pretty much 24/7 and I rarely ever hear it say "Connection lost".
I'm using Amp, but I don't think that makes a difference in this case. If you are seeing these disconnects more than once a day or at all during cash hours, I would be concerned there may be another issue at play. For instance, I switched from Avast to NOD32 antivirus because of some issues with Avast interfering with the Zen Fire connection and causing some pretty bad latency.
The longest Ive gone is 23 days excluding weekend downtime without Mirus/ZenFire disconnecting.
In fact it hardly ever d/c and when it does its like back on instantly.
I remember one instance only this year where it was down for 35 minutes 10 minutes before the NY open.
In fact that could have actually been last year
May be the trial account for Zen-Fire is less stable than the production one. Anyway, does anybody knows if there is any difference in terms of speed if I use AMP/Zen-Fire or Mirus/Zen-Fire? Is my Ninja Trader connected directly to Zen-Fire or the connection passes through IB servers first?
I am also with Mirus and experienced some connection problems. Turned out to be my Internet connection. I had many discussions with our cable company ( Bright House - here in Florida). First the incoming signal was too weak and later too strong. After many service calls they got it just right.
The lesson I learned though is to check with your ISP. Also the kind of router makes a big difference. I am currently thinking of investing in a gaming router and maybe a Killer NIC network card.
Since I had these problems corrected Mirus has just about ran flawlessly.
I tested AMP and MIRUS live accounts and actual I trade only over MIRUS Zen-Fire with Rosenthal Collins Group RCG as Clearing partner. I can recommend MIRUS with RCG.

I use Mirus/Zen-Fire demo for months (at least 6, I think). Never had any connection issues, ever, not a single one. You definitely might want to look at other places suggested (ISP, router, etc).
ToS to my experience is quite the opposite and worthless for futures day trading/scalping. Their futures charts are somewhat unreliable. I have costant problems with bad data, freezing charts, not being able to deal with fast moving markets (noticeable delays) , etc. I was bugging them for month, but they mostly blame their data providers. So, I gave up ToS and switched to Zen-Fire. I can say I was shocked, what the HUGE difference that made.
Other that futures, I must say I love ToS platform and use it for equities/options.
