...a nuclear-powered, MINI-Cooper-sized super rover will land on Mars. We accurately guided this monster from 200 million miles away (that’s 7.6 million marathons).
It requires better accuracy than an Olympic golfer teeing off in London and hitting a hole-in-one in Auckland, New Zealand. It will use a laser to blast rocks, a chemical nose to sniff out the potential for life, and hundreds of other feats of near-magic. Will these discoveries lead us down a path to confirming life on other planets?
NASA’s coverage of the event is scheduled to begin at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night and go until 4 a.m. Monday morning. The landing itself is scheduled for 1:31 a.m. Monday (EDT)
I agree, it's the ultimate in exploration and science experiments... we are privaledged to see achievements like this, live video from 200 million miles away...searching for life etc. what a time to be alive..
And if/when they find proof of life on Mars, I think it has the potential to be a milestone in society, just like the "space race" of the 50's and 60's was for my parents generation. It energized the nation. Watch old TV footage and see how it brought everyone together.
I hope the same will be true of this. But in today's 24h news cycle, this will get a few minutes, and then back to who showed up drunk to American Idol and who forgot to wear a bra when they went outside.
We always talk about this crap, how terrible the mainstream news is with this kind of crap and people are consumed with this tabloid junk instead of spending time learning about real news that is actually important.
Exciting stuff mike, fingers crossed from the UK regards a safe landing
Not seen any news on this in the UK, thanks for sharing
