Ron Paul To Have Special Announcement On The Jay Leno Show - 3rd Party Run?!
And just as un-electable. He cracked me up when he was running in the Republican primary and said he supported legalizing pot. I agreed with him... but then again I wasn't trying to be nominated by Republicans...
Has anyone besides that guy on YouTube said Ron Paul intends to make an announcement?
I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.
My daddy always said, "Every day above ground is a good day!"
The reason he runs on the Repub ticket is because no independent has ever been elected to President of the US. In modern history, the reasons are numerous, but in the television/debate era, it's mainly because of the primary process.
By running on the GOP/DNC ticket, a candidate gets the media exposure for several months prior to the general election. So an indy, walks into the debates having relatively small exposure and coverage. By the time the general election rolls around, the incumbant is already well known and the opposition party has had ample opportunities to communicate their platform through debates, interviews, etc. In essence, the news gravitates mre toward primary struggles and all the sensationalism that goes along with it. There's nothing sensational about interviewing or providing relatively free media messaging for indy/3rd party candidates.
For decades, the GOP was dominant because it combined fiscal conservatives...who could really care less about religious issues or social conservatism, but simply chose the GOP over the Democrats because the GOP robbed them less.
The Democratic party, seeing it's decline, was then forced to band together a group of coalitions and pretty much whored themselves out to every special interest group in opposition to the GOP. The Democrats, USED to be the party of the little guy. Today, they're overrun as the party of the gays, tree huggers, unions, etc...(I guess you could consider unions to represent the little guy, but only if you're a fool...)
Now that the GOP has abandoned fiscal conservatives and decided they too could get what they want out of big government, fiscal conservatives have no place left to turn. Now they're getting screwed both ways by the GOP, they're getting social conservatism and fiscal liberalism, which is pretty much the opposite of libertarianism.
In an even more odd twist of fate, liberals, who once used to be socially liberal, are now more statist in their social laws than ever....liberals just aren't liberal anymore. If you do something they don't approve of...they'll attempt to pass a law to force you into their brand of "enlightenment." In essence, if you believe in creationism for instance....you're seen as a threat and therefore they'll pass laws forcing schools to teach ONLY evolution. Don't want your 15 year old daughter to be able to get birth control without your permission...tough, they'll pass a law that says she can, with or without your permission. Etc, et al with every social "equality" or "progressive" law they're creating now.
We've entered an even more bizarre realm where Democrats and Republicans team up together to give us endless wars (then argue in public about being in opposition and laugh behind closed doors). Catering to the rich and corporations is another example.
The DNC and the RNC are in unison on the very most important issues that affect us...but the people are duped into squabbling about stupid social issues and confused at every turn by media that would rather sell ratings than truth. (Obamacare and the mandate were actually Republican ideas.) who'd have thought we'd see a day when Democrats would support spying on Americans and indefinite detention by the military etc?
We're at a very crucial point in our history, as Americans are starting to see the cold hard truth about big government and all it's grand failures......we'll either continue our decline into some form of European socialism, or we'll see a resurgence back to Constitutionally based principles....
Of course all this assumes we're not thrust into a 3rd world war or a global economic collapse (or both) before the showdown fully materializes.
"A dumb man never learns. A smart man learns from his own failure and success. But a wise man learns from the failure and success of others."
Paul also praised Johnson, the former Republican governor of New Mexico, at the convention, saying, “I think he’s wonderful and I think he’s doing a good job, and people should look at him and every individual should make up their own mind.”
