I've decided to make a server infrastructure change. I want to simplify our config.

For years, we ran:

- Single server for everything, MySQL, nginx, PHP-FPM
- Fixed hardware platform at time of purchase

This was equipment we owned and shipped to our datacenter. The disadvantage was a) hardware failures [which happened, like disks] required our personal involvement, shipping, etc -- and b) fixed hardware technology, once it's deployed it's done.

Months ago, I changed to:

- Google Cloud Platform
- Three servers: a) Galera MariaDB on each, b) nginx and php-fpm on two

Advantage is hardware is handled by Google. Transparent hardware replacements that don't involve us. Transparent hardware upgrades, so we don't end up multiple generations behind.

Disadvantage to the new setup is complexity, as you've observed in this thread.

So, my decision is to simplify. I am staying with GCP for the advantages, but I am deploying a regular MariaDB and not Galera. And I am deploying a single PHP-FPM, which can be scaled to two easily. Eliminating Galera is the primary issue here.

This config should also be slightly faster, as the Galera replication caused some latency -- especially when submitting new posts, as all three replicating servers had to confirm the write into their filesystem before it would release the transaction.

brief background...I set up a second journal "Snax Holds Himself Accountable" in order to track the longer-term goals, keys and any ideas and discoveries that were getting buried under the daily grind of charts and trade-tracking in my daily journal. I made the mistake of naming it without giving it much thought and kind of wanted to name it something else.

If this is going to lead to any inconvenience on the part of you or the admins then don't worry about it, its not that big a deal. Thanks!

Sure, users can do it themselves by going to post #1 in the thread, click Edit button. Then near the top you'll see a new option to change the title that isn't usually there in normal posts.

Let me know if any issues, and I'll do it for you (give me the new name).
