I don't know what you mean by "any pointers". If you mean do they support it and where can you download an indicator, I have no idea but would guess they do not offer it built-in. There is probably a third party add-on, but based on my understanding of TradeStation, it will be minute level accuracy at best and not tick by tick. But I really do not know as I don't use and never have used TradeStation, I only learn from what I read.
If you want to really be a Profile trader, you will need to use the proper tools.
If you want general advice on using Profile, on any platform, here is the main thread:
I felt that we needed a thread dedicated to the discussion of Volume Profile.
Some basics, you can hover over these and click on most of them to get more info in the wiki. I also encourage you guys to improve the wiki articles by editing …
Hi Thanks Mike. Real good info there. Yes, sadly it mean's I may need to change tools. Since most of my data and indicators is on tradestation it is a little hard. Will probably use Market Delta moving ahead in the year. Will however post my observations & thoughts in the thread you posted as I get more familiar with volume profile.
NinjaTrader has it thru third party add-ons which are available free here to Elite members. Sierra Chart has it built-in. MarketDelta has it built-in. Those are good places to start.
@paps - Solidus has volume profile indicator on the TS Community that is OK but nothing like a 'real' VP system.
I use Tradestation regularly but have recently been using Sierra Chart for Volume Profile studies. It isn't ideal to have 2 different platforms but it has been working OK so far.
Hi Eric...thanks. I did check out the TS forums. Well am planning on Market Delta sometime next year due to ease of use. Till then will use TS....will post some charts on the MP/Vol profile thread.
Like Big Mike, I'm not exactly clear what you need for pointers. But I think the answer to your question is it can do what you want.
TradeStation has tick level data and I'm sure you can add an Analysis Technique to your charts. I trade FX so I'm not an expert on on equities, futures, options etc, but I believe volume data is part of the data feed. The only one that doesn't have it is forex and I've been able to simulate that by using Tick Count in my charts.
I've included a couple of images for you to look at. The first one is the menu you would use to insert an indicator (sometimes called an analysis technique) into your chart. The other is the list of built-in volume indicators that you select from, and those can be tweaked. I'm not an absolute expert in TradeStation or EasyLanguage but I'm working with the package. Let me know if I got close to answering your question.
I'm sure that possible. If you haven't done so already, you might check out the TradeStation forum.
I've seen that type of volume profiling but I think it confuses is more than helps, but I hope it works good for you.
Cheers
