Ok I might be crazy for starting this thread. So keep that in mind.
I'd like you to reply and tell me if you could pick just ONE or TWO things to change about futures.io (formerly BMT), what would they be? Please be as specific as possible, and please also give an example of how this change would benefit the site.
I'm more inclined to make the changes if you can convince me to do them, so please be descriptive
Now the reason I say I might be crazy... soliciting this type of opinion is a dangerous game, because sometimes people will feel very passionately about something and then I decide to not implement it or I disagree with them. That can lead to resentment and that can lead to a lot of bad stuff. So, please please understand I'm just starting this thread to try to make the site a better place, and that it is impossible for me to implement or agree with everything that will be said.
Now that's out of the way, please hit reply and tell me your thoughts!
BTW, I want to share with you that the Moderating team and I have been working on a long list of site enhancements for several months now.
Some of these are very advanced things, that require a great deal of custom programming and site development. I am working slowly to implement them.
One such change that is already in the works is a new site skin. The skin is what controls the sites layout, the color theme, the icons, the navigation bar, font style, everything. I'm excited about the new skin as it gives the site a more professional appearance, especially with regards to the site logo. I hope to be able to show off some of the skin in the coming days. For now, below is just a very tiny snippet
Working on the new skin also gives me a great opportunity to work on some of the changes you guys come up with in this thread. If I can do them all at once, I will, and it will be easier that way.
In all seriousness I'd like to see regular seminars held in the chat/Skype/some other mode. I've participated in chat seminars on other sites so would be happy to offer some input on it.
Thanks Blz. I agree with you on this, and I'm looking into the best way to do it so we can do screen sharing. I've used GoToMeeting, WebEx, LogMeIn, Adobe, TeamViewer and others in the past, trying to find the easiest one for end-users but powerful enough for it to be worth my time to organize it
I would suggest starting the 'Elite Member' threads as free threads for the first few posts. If it sparks the interest of non-elite members (including myself), they will donate to see more.
It's a drug dealer approach.... give away a little for free, and see who comes back for more.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not going to be able to do this. Too many people post very, very valuable things in the Elite section and they did so for the very reason that it wouldn't be accessible to non-Elite members.
You ultimately need to decide -- has the site helped your trading in the absolute smallest iota? Even one or two ticks out of all your trades? If yes, then you should have no problem supporting the site on that basis alone, and everything in the Elite section is purely an extra reward for doing so.
I've placed Google AdSense ads for non-registered members (ie: guests, users who haven't signed up for a username). So far it's earning me about $1/day, lol!
I know that sponsorships can be lucrative however. TL claims $12k a month in revenue from sponsorships. I'm looking into it, but have no immediate plans. One thing is for certain, I want to do it differently than other sites like ET, if I do it at all.
Your sponsors would pay more the more forum visitors you had...so I get paid in a sense for forum visits and automatically donate to futures.io (formerly BMT).
