is data feed freeze once a day common amongst trading community
I am running Transact datafeed with Sierra Chart. Pretty happy except I get a freeze about 1 time each day during RTH. My broker says that is not uncommon and 1 time a day is expected. I can not find any thread here concerning disconnect (freeze). Is once a day common? I am considering Rithmic, there is a thread here concerning Rithmic and Sierra Chart freeze problem but it seems to be resolved. Big Mike says that Rithmic is tick for tick with DTN/IQ which is appealing since I use tick charts
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I've used only IQFeed for many years for my data. While I do have Rithmic I've only looked at a Rithmic based chart for a couple of minutes over the last several years.
I never see any slow down or freeze with IQFeed in Sierra Chart.
I wil try here to do an analysis and comparation on different data feeds and platforms to perfom studies involving bid/ask data, like comulative bid/ask difference or delta bars and footprint like.
Transact support released ZanerDayTrader V5.4.1 and forced all traders to update. this seems to have solved my freeze problem. Still holding my breath, but not every day like it was before. Transact support seems to be updating ZanerDayTrader every day this week. I also had a problem with Transact data feed for ES, not keeping up during the flash crash of April 23. Crossing my fingers that this is solved too.
1. managed to contact Transact Tech support - usually they tell me to call my broker, but I told them my broker isn't concerned, so tech support looked at my files
2. seems like Sierra Chart was logged off and back on and tech support didn't know why
3. tech support changed my access from UDP to TCP (type1 to type 2) and this solved my problem
4. iii. From Wiki - Applications that do not require the reliability of a TCP connection may instead use the connectionless User Datagram Protocol (UDP), which emphasizes low-overhead operation and reduced latency rather than error
5. tech support assures me that the speed is more than adequate for day trading on TCP
6. I live in BC and have very few choices for discount futures broker, so I will stay with what I have
Having traded with TransAct for many years, even without consideration for speed but just reliability/stability reasons alone, I suggest an alternative, such as CTS, TT, or Rithmic. Just check the Sierra support board for transact and how many issues they have and how often, should give you an idea.
No problem, yes that is strange how its missing! I used both Zaner and Infinity before, I'm with DDT now and happy with them, I believe they do accept Canadian traders per their site.
DDT ??
I checked Sierra Chart supporting brokers - Supported Data and Trading Services - Sierra Chart and I can't identify any DDT broker.
I am not impressed with my broker as he told me not to worry about 1 screen freeze a day. But the good news is I have sorted out my problems, now I just need to sort out my trading. I plan to use IB and QQQ to ease me into LIVE (QQQ is much like NQ)
Never mind, I found the nexusfi.com (formerly BMT) thread -
