Quick update everyone here's what the build is looking like right now turns out I misread and my original idea of getting 2 x 7850s will work fine as long as I dont want eyefinity on all 6 monitors!
COMPUTER:
Motherboard: ASUS formula V (289) Looking to not have to upgrade this system for awhile so want to make it future proof!
CPU: i7 2700k 220
SSD: crucial m4 189
Cooler: H100(rather big but great cooling system) 105
Sorry I never got back to you, probably too late now.
Those cards you bought have 1 HDMI, 2 mini-dp, and 1 DVI. Therefore to run 6 monitors you will have to run 4 monitors on mini-dp and 2 on HDMI or DVI. I would not want to do this. It will probably work, but personal preference.
I would have bought workstation cards, but thats just my opinion. Thats a gaming card with RAM, fans, clock speed, power usage, etc that is unnecessary for a trading rig.
Kt and or big mike...
I am finishing up a build and now tryin to decide on whether I should get 3-1080p 24" screens Or start with 3 24" 1200p. Do you see a noticeable difference or do you wish that you got the 1200s. I am wondering if its worth it the uptick in costs. At most I have 4 chart running per screen.
Thanks for your advise.
For those of you in the know, do you have to have an even number of monitors when using a video card that supports multiple monitors?
For example can you use 3 monitors? The only reason I ask is because im wondering how Windows would handle things on 3 monitors in terms of where things are logically (virtually?) laid out.
2, 4, 6 etc monitors is fairly logical for a 'square' windows desktop. what about 3 or 5 monitors.
I've seen three monitors setups more often than not.
Put then all side to side and you will have a big wide rectangular area...
I've also seen 4 monitor setups pus in an inverted T shape, if you see what I mean.
Absolutely no problem for windows.
Successful people will do what unsuccessful people won't or can't do!
I am having the same problem with my 3 monitor eyefinity setup--sometimes all 3 of them wouldn't power up--i had to disable any monitor power saving mode.--for not really a problem for me as i just turn them off manually if I I go away for an extended period.
Question on the dual fp2460 cards--- can you extend your windows to any or all of the 8 monitors? I seem to to have read somewhere that you couldn't extend across video cards.
I have 3, with one on top and two on bottom, and the one on top is centered, right in the middle of the two on bottom. I use Windows 7 and it does a great job of letting me align these this way. Special software not required, all native to Windows.
