I have backups, but didn't really care if I blew out XP cuz I knew for a fact I was replacing it cuz it was driving me nuts. I use Gparted to try to shrink it, which may have been the wrong tool, I dunno.
The W7 box takes about 3 hours for full backup, so I figured it was worthwhile to spend a little time and get the unmoveable crap turned off than risk having to restore it and any potential issues with that. It was an educated decision that I will have to live with the rest of my life.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Oh yeah, after decompressing the drive I went back and recompressed just the old contract scid data files and the data folder went from 62.7 to 13.7 gigs. I don't access them very often, so it shouldn't have much negative effect on my ssd, if hardly any. After each rollover I'll just compress the previous contracts. After all the changes, I have right around 50 gigs free space, which even at a conservative 4/1 compression ratio, that gives me about 200 gigs of free space for scid data, which is more than I will ever need. Thanks again for you help.
This is interesting to me, because by default Sierra Chart has always FORCED compression on its Data directory. I even emailed them about it a couple years ago, they could not find a way for me to disable it.
Now you are saying yours is not compressed by default. I wonder what gives.
