I was BURN in the US (just kidding -- BORN [and raised]), but my 2nd language is Portuguese. I like both flavours, both European and Brazilian, but I live in Brazil. My Portuguese is not perfect, but when I find someone who can speak English to 75% of my Portuguese, I'm floored. I would love to speak perfect French and Spanish, but the problem is PRACTICE. It's not easy to get this where I live.

Mike, you really moving to Ecuador? Loco.. I moved to Brazil maaaany years ago and all of my American amigos back then told me I was crazy. All these years later, I resent having to carry around a "foreigner" ID card because my whole life is here. But what Felix said is correct. It helps to "know" how to speak the language, but being "forced" to interact is another thing.

Felix - are you from Rio Grande do sul? Vc mora nos EUA?

As of now I speak three languages fluent and two other intermediare.

Was raised bilingual with dutch and turkish, grew up in a trilingual environment adding english to the list.
Currently I am trying to get my spanish from intermediare to fluent by spending half a year in Central- and South-America(posting from Costa Rica). Other intermediare language would be German, which is easy for me to learn since there is some overlay with dutch.

Also been studying Japanese for two years but would say it is still beginnner level. Really hard language to grasp when you aren't experiencing full immersion. Know about 800 kanji characters now. Still a long way to go -_-.

Mike, Do you use some sort of translator for threads in other languages on this forum? I've been seeing threads in all sorts of languages recently.
