I was BURN in the US (just kidding -- BORN [and raised]), but my 2nd language is Portuguese. I like both flavours, both European and Brazilian, but I live in Brazil. My Portuguese is not perfect, but when I find someone who can speak English to 75% of my Portuguese, I'm floored. I would love to speak perfect French and Spanish, but the problem is PRACTICE. It's not easy to get this where I live.
Mike, you really moving to Ecuador? Loco.. I moved to Brazil maaaany years ago and all of my American amigos back then told me I was crazy. All these years later, I resent having to carry around a "foreigner" ID card because my whole life is here. But what Felix said is correct. It helps to "know" how to speak the language, but being "forced" to interact is another thing.
Felix - are you from Rio Grande do sul? Vc mora nos EUA?
