Hi Guys,
What im wondering is how you guys that trade multiple instruments looking for that perfect setup, how you monitor the instruments? Meaning if you watch 3/4/or 5 main instruments how many monitors do you use to get your signal to make a trade? Im looking at trading 4 so for me I need 12 monitors not counting the 2 extras for web surfing and account status. The reason I need 3 for each instrument is large/medium/small time frames. Yes you could use (4) 1 for each instrument and toggle thru time frames to verify entry is valid. Im just curious what you guys use. Because if I do chose to watch and trade 4 instruments Im going to have one more big wall of 32" screens. Thx in advance for sharing and recommendations
hey Rad4633....lol...this was something i dabbled with a while back. I thought more is better...& landed up with 14. 7 per system.
what i realized subsequently is 4/5 is good for me to monitor almost anything ..i run the others to watch charts using new tools and platforms....to decide if they can be integrated in my style since i am discretionary & not automated.
Given my small brain i realize 4...max 5 or 6 p is what i need.
i do use one solely for watching news/spyke & have a small music program running
I think it's a bit oversized. You can't follow charts at so many screens. I would recommend that you use one screen per instrument and scale your timeframe charts to fit at these single screen. If you have to look at so much parameters (instruments x timeframes x signals/indicator values) it's a common approach to build a common view (like Market Analyzer) which monitors all of these parameters and alerts you when a valid setup occurs. THEN you could switch to the detailed view of these Instrument and span the belonging charts over 2-4 monitors. There are some tools available which can set the window size and position via makros.
My Approach: 1 Monitor - Central View via Market Analyzer (all relevant values + Setups) + 4 Monitors for concurrent view of 4 instruments which are most interesting (switched manually at alerts from market analyzer / time of day).
with your market analyzer-how can you see prior support/res areas? maybe a screen shot of prior market analizer then post shot showing how you used it to enter a trade setup wouldbe useful in helping me understand...thx for responding Im just slow at understanding
@Koepisch Note I have (2 ) 50" monitors I can split into 4 mini charts per screen but from my experience its not as clear as using 1 smaller monitor per screen.
I don't have any experience with 50" screens, but i think that this is an TV Screen, isn't it? My 4 subscreens are 20,1" 1600 x 1200 in a 2x2 setup. They fit all of my needs. If you want to utilize a central Monitoring instance (like the market analyzer) you have to do some home work before. It depends of your trading system and you have to recode your indicators to display the relevant system variables in the market analyzer. If you want to track price movments into r/s areas you could use rectangles or lines and show the distance to the current price and/or give an alert at intersection. It's hard to get all into the market analyzer, but it could assist you to spot interesting Price movements.
Something like that (as a sample):
* 8 possible instruments to trade
* You need 1 Screen per Instrument to visualize your trading system
* Only 4 Screens available
* Setup detection system relies on 8 boolean variables / showed in market analyzer
* LOGIC SCREEN CHOICE: The 4 instruments with the highest count of variables switched ON are distributed over the 4 Screens. Make an audio alarm if an instrument was newly added.
Then you have the worthwhile markets in front of you, without switching thru the charts the whole day or looking at 20 screens with 2 eyes.
I have six 24" monitors, four of which are exclusively for trading.
I do consider it a minimum, it would be hard for me to get by with less. But two of those monitors are exclusively for ES, the other two are for me to throw up whatever I am looking at for the day (equities). I suggest using some sort of scanner or watch list with a linked workspace so that with one click you can switch multiple charts to that symbol, that way you can flip thru them easily.
I am in the same situation as Rad4633, as i did pm him asking a few questions about what he already tried with the "50 TV.
My other thought was based on idea and not experience was to use 4 monitors either 24" or 27" and build your workspace for each instrument using the "FocusTitlebar" download or similar program.
Spending the extra cash on monitors can be expensive and that was why i first thought of a 46" LED 1080P TV.
at least i could just glance at it to see other markets set ups and then go to smaller monitor for trading off the Trading charts that are minimized on it.
Still thinking of what to do just like Rad4633
I use 4 x 22" on my trading PC and 2 x 19" on my laptop. I'm totally happy with this arrangement. Lots of screen space, neat and tidy and very cost effective.
I can the middle screen for my DOM, Recon Tape and a small time frame chart for execution. The top left is for inter-markets, the bottom left is for TPO's, top middle has multi time frame charts of the market i'm trading. The right hand screens are for news.
