I've always wondered what people think of giving thanks to posts and what criteria a post needs to getting a thanks. Do any of you try to keep a certain ratio of thanks given to thanks received or do you just wing it? Am I the only person who thinks about this or am I going crazy?

I thank posts that I consider valuable (meaning: informative or helpful) for myself or the community. I consider thanking posts quite important, and thus I thank often. Personally, it always annoys me if people thank only a few posts.
I do often wonder why some posts get a lot of thanks. Some posts that are copy-pasted from another website can receive a lot of thanks ("thanks for copyright infringement"?) while other posts in which energy is put and references are added do not receive (much) thanks.
My intention to express my thanks is if a particular post is helpful / valuable to me or supporting in any way, e.g. by answering a certain question, putting me in the right direction of a topic, leaving a (decent) comment on what I've posted before, providing a specific link / indicator, or even if someone expresses his opinion which is similar or equal to mine.

if i agree with comment or statement being made, then I give thanks. As you can tell from my avatar stats I ve Agreed with more than a few traders views I think i dont answer alot of questions or go out of my way with threads that could cause controversy, this being said I have little thx being given. I have futures.io (formerly BMT) friends so thats all that matters to me Im not trying to be a social butterfly
Honestly Im glad to see this thread bc i dont know how others see giving thx.
